I thought about how Joseph Smith yearned for the whole and real truth when he was searching for a church that was right. It reminds me of this picture of Jesus Christ mentioned in Revelation 3:20-22 which says,
“20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”
These verses remind me that Jesus Christ (and God) is always waiting for us, and we can either accept Him or turn Him away. When we choose to accept, learn of his wisdom, glory, His redemption, and act on changing our ways, etc, we can be with Him in Heaven. He’s telling us that through Him, our lives can change drastically and through Him we can be sincerely joyful.

The Light of Life
By President M. Russel Ballard

“In the words of President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, “Jesus Christ is the light of the world because he is the source of the light which ‘proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space’ [Doctrine and Covenants 88:12].” The Savior’s light is “the true light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (Doctrine and Covenants 93:2; see also 84:46). With this light, we may know how to judge “good from evil” (Moroni 7:16) This universal light is known as “the light of truth,” “the light of Christ,” and “the Spirit of Christ” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:6; 88:7; Moroni 7:16).”

Chehalis Ward Plan – 2023
All members of the Chehalis Ward are invited to strengthen themselves and their family by having a Christ-centered home.

1. Read the Book of Mormon and scriptures each day.
2. Attend the temple regularly (or meet with the Bishop to prepare for the temple).

All members are invited to fulfill the Chehalis Ward Mission Plan.

1. Prepare a Book of Mormon by adding special tabs*, then prayerfully give it to someone.
2. Invite the missionaries and a friend into your home to discuss the gospel of Jesus Christ OR go out on visits with the missionaries.
3. Refer a friend to the missionaries.

*The ward mission leader and ward missionaries can help you or your family with adding special tabs into a new Book of Mormon. This is an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Trust God’s will with Jesus’ strength

Philippians 4:6-13
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Recently I have put to work of doing God’s will and letting go of what my earthly existence wants. I was going through something that felt like it was tearing me apart. Instead of letting it hurt me any longer, I reminded myself of the saying “I can do hard things”. Everytime I said that, I felt a sense of relief that I didn’t before. Then I remembered Philippians 4:13 which reads, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” I was able to accomplish a great thing because of this quote. We often bring ourselves down and continually wallow in self doubt without thinking of the strength of Christ that can help us surpass every fault and weakness.
Remember Him. He is our Great Redeemer.

Next Sunday, January 8th, will be fast Sunday.

“To develop spiritual strength, we need to do our part. If we are not willing to work and be obedient, we should not expect the miracle. In my experience, miracles are always found through obedience and hard work.
A person who can discipline himself to fast on a regular basis in the way God has designed can resist every temptation, overcome any burden, and become free from any yoke.” -Elder Shayne M. Bowen

Fast offerings are different from other offerings. It is especially different because every fast offering given goes directly to assist the poor.
“King Benjamin taught that as we give of our substance to the poor, we retain “a remission of [our] sins from day to day.” -Joseph B. Wirthlin

Teach Me to Walk in the Light

Every Sunday that I go to church, I sing a few church hymns and maybe even a primary song. I enjoy singing songs that my Father in heaven appreciates. This past Sunday, I sang “Teach me to Walk in the Light”. I’d say this is my favorite, although I have like 100 favorites. It’s been stuck in my head since Sunday morning. I’ve learned over the past few years how much I don’t enjoy listening/singing songs that are pretty much the opposite of what He would like or appreciate. I feel a strong connection to Him when I sing, hum or sing in my head in the car, at work, at church, or at home the songs that he appreciates. Singing church hymns every Sunday prepares me for the week to remember how much he loves me and it also reminds me how much happier I am when I follow His commandments even if it’s not transactional.
