The Chautauqua Cemetery is operated by the Chautauqua Cemetery Association, P.O. A board of local residents oversees the cemetery with President Sylvia Faust and Cemetery Superintendent David Beeson. The first burials occurred in 1823 but the cemetery continues today in a well-maintained and lovely country setting located on Route 394 (4949 W. Lake Road, Mayville) between Chautauqua Institution

and the Village of Mayville. Nearly 2,000 lots are filled in the Cemetery, but hundreds remain for sale at the cost of $400 per lot. Beeson may be reached at 716-357-4001 for information.

Winter continues in Chautauqua County with lots of snow on the ground but temperatures "rising" into the 20s! Dunkirk Dave, our local groundhog, says we'll have an early spring. We'll take that instead of Phil's prediction of 6 more weeks of winter!

Join us for our Memorial Day spring clean-up at the Cemetery from 10 a.m. - noon on Monday, May 26. Bring your own tools to w**d and/or clean gravestones. At noon, we'll sit under a tree and the cemetery board will fill you in on news since Memorial Day, 2024. Bring a chair and a sandwich for yourself. You can bring goodies to share if you like!
