For this week’s Twosday Tips, we are so excited to feature of our recent Delight alums!
“My name is Melon, and I am a recent Business Marketing May 2019 graduate from Lee. I was a member of Delight my senior year, and it is one of those clubs where you walk in feeling warmth and love.
An incoming tip I have for every freshman is to try out all the newness you can. It can be so daunting to move to a new place where you have to make new friends, but there are so many awesome events and ways to get involved on campus. Don’t miss out! These memories will carry over throughout the rest of your time at Lee. I can vouch for that statement. (Of course, don’t go into such a social overload to where you can’t be still in the Lord’s presence. He is your rock. All of the rest is vanity. You will only find true fulfillment in Him.) Be Still with God, but don’t doubt in the fact that God may bring you the most transformative people to you freshman year. Be open to cookout runs, small groups, and eating in the caf with friends. The small moments create lifelong friendships!”

“This summer & I had the opportunity to lead a Delight Summer Series group in our hometown of Chattanooga. Going into it, I honestly had no clue what to expect. We invited friends we already knew but I was so afraid of our first meeting; I wasn’t sure how many girls would show up. Honestly, I had to heart-check myself that I was doing this for the Lord’s glory, not for my own. Whether 1 girl showed up or 10, it didn’t matter as long as we were pursuing Jesus and digging into the Word.

Every week there were small readings & podcasts surrounding the topic of Dreamers in the Bible. That topic, which sounded super cliche at first, became extremely life-changing for many of us who participated in the series. Getting to dive deep into difficult topics like fear, shame, and mental health (just to name a few) allowed us to all become closer.

What I learned most from this experience is that no one has their life together. Regardless of how composed a person can look on the outside, you never know what is going on in their personal life and what issues lie beneath the surface of their smile. I think we all like to put on a brave face and pretend we’ve got it covered, but what these girls taught me is the importance of community. Vulnerability does not equal weakness. If anything, being brave enough to share your struggles is the ultimate strength because it allows others to enter your journey and walk alongside you when you need support to lean on.

The Lord blessed me immensely this summer in ways I did not anticipate and I am so happy that we took the leap of faith to lead a Summer Series. I know how transformative it was for me and the other girls and I can’t wait to share more about how it has impacted my walk with Christ.” •• @ Chattanooga, Tennessee

Only a few more Twosday Tips before we’re back on campus!!
“hi! I’m Grace, and I’ll be a junior this fall as a business admin/ nonprofit management major & social work minor!

my advice to incoming freshman would be to get rid of any and all expectations and pressures that you’ve placed on yourself coming into college. let go of the pressure to be perfect, to fulfill some imaginary standard of what a perfect dorm, perfect friend group, straight A’s, social media posts, etc. look like. the best things that have come from my time at Lee have come as a result of disappointments. one door closed, and the Lord opened an even better one that I couldn’t have possibly dreamed of. I just want to encourage you all to trust in the Lord’s timing and His plans, because He is working in and through you to bring forth the most beautiful story for your life. if you try so hard to do everything on your own instead of taking time to rest, breathe, and sit in His presence each day, you will be absolutely drained of all of your energy and joy. let His word fill you and sustain you. take time to notice the little things — a smile from a hall-mate, a message in small group, worship in chapel, a note from your RA, or even something as simple as the flowers blooming around campus. there is so much beauty in the ordinary, and Jesus wants to be part of every minute of your life. His love is enough, and you don’t need to feel like you have to measure up to someone else’s or even your own standards. you got this!!

“sink deeply into the world as it stands. breathe in the smell of rain and the scuff of leaves as they scrape across driveways on windy nights. this is where life is, not in some imaginary, photo-shopped dreamland. here. now. you, just as you are. me, just as I am. this world, just as it is. this is the good stuff. this is the best stuff there is. perfect has nothing on truly, completely, wide-eyed, open-souled present.” - shauna niequist, “present over perfect”

Another one of new leaders for this year, Cali, was really eager to share this message of encouragement with you! — “I’m sure everyone is familiar with the famous acronym “WWJD” and its response, “HWLF.” I have a new one for you: WDJS (What Did Jesus Say?) I’ve found it crucial to consider this question often.

I don’t know about anybody else, but times have been stressful lately, to say the least!
I know anxiety has been a reality for a lot of people. I’ve witnessed it take root in the lives of my friends & family, and I feel God has placed a word on my heart to share.
So, WDJS— What does Jesus have to say about anxiety?

PEACE. The gospel of John relays Jesus’ teaching: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (14:27) This promise has absolutely been my anchor throughout the past few months, as I’ve allowed my circumstances to sway my faith and anxiety to attempt to keep me stagnant. God has been teaching me that even when my thoughts don’t line up with His promise, His word still remains true. He’s reminded me that my feelings do not define who He is and who He says I am. No matter what we face, we have peace & stability through Him, and all fear & anxiety is a lie.

To anyone who is currently struggling with anxiety: know you’re not alone— you have family, friends, mentors, etc. who love you & are willing to lift you up in prayer and walk alongside you. Seek out your resources. BUT... even more so than that, know you have a Savior who empathizes— who fully sees and fully knows the depths of your heart and mind and gives a peace that surpasses all understanding. Hand your anxieties & burdens over to Him and I pray you, too, will find rest in His promise of peace. ♡”

What a sweet gal we get to feature on this week’s Twosday Tips!
“Hey!! I’m Jen and I am a sophomore Intercultural Studies major. My first year at Lee taught me to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Transitioning to a whole new place was harder than I thought it would be and it called for a lot of awkward moments. There were times where I felt so out of place and alone but I had to learn to get out of my comfort zone. Delight has been a great way for me to do that! I’ve met so many sweet girls who truly care and I’ve been able to be vulnerable about my struggles. So, I encourage you to come to Lee with an open mind, especially when trying to find your community. It’s going to be a great year!”

Avery, one of our newest leaders, is sharing with us what’s been on her heart lately —
“Lately, I feel like God is telling me to slow down and read the details and then RE-read the details, and to not be afraid to learn more.

I feel like sometimes going to a Christian university, I get overwhelmed by all the things God is trying to teach me, whether in classes or chapel. But when it comes to my daily devotions, I feel myself starting to rush or just reading to get it done with.

Last summer I spent time at Winshape Camps for Girls, a Christian girls camp. For this specific summer there was a theme on Psalm 23. So after spending 3 months on Pslam 23 I was pretty sure I had exhausted it and learned EVERYTHING there is to know about Psalm 23.

But God continues to show me how wrong I was and am.

Anytime Psalm 23 comes up, for the past year I avoid it. I continuously say “I do NOT want to look at it ever again”. But God continues to show me that he’s not finished molding my heart to Psalm 23.

The first church service I went to after getting home this summer was on Psalm 23. The next week, my church decided to do a whole series on Psalm 23!

It wasn’t until recently that I think I finally learned what God was trying to tell me!

My pastor was talking about his journey through Israel and what he learned. He learned all about this special point in the desert called Midba or Waddy Kelt. When translated, it means “The Valley of the Shadow of Death”. This specific place is the only place in the desert that is ALWAYS covered by Shade. No matter the position of the sun, it is always shady.

This place is also suppose to be the place where Jesus was walking through the wilderness and spent 40 days and 40 nights. It is also known as the place where the Devil tempted Him.

Midba is also translated to “The word, or place of hearing the word”.

My pastor also said this. “In the valley make sure to PRAY an honest prayer... God can do miracles with an honest prayer but if it’s not honest it’s going to take Him a lot longer to know what you need. “

So this summer I am still stuck on Psalm 23. But I’m slowing down to learn all there is about Psalm 23”

Another Tuesday, Twosday Tips!!!
“Hi beautiful! I'm Hannah and I'm a rising senior. I transferred to Lee last Fall, and I was pretty nervous. Thankfully, a sweet friend recommend I should check out Delight during the Club Lee showcase. The ladies of Delight were so encouraging and welcoming. They are genuine girls who love others well and love Jesus even more. If you are searching for community with women who love Jesus, I'd highly recommend checking out Delight. Another recommendation of mine to new students is to get to know your professors. If they know you and like you, that can be the difference between and A and an A-.”

Want to hear what God’s been teaching our worship leader, Natalie, over the summer months?
Sometimes, I feel like my life is filled with so many “almost’s”.
Almost dated that guy. Almost got an “A” in that class. Almost got that job or internship. Almost knew what I wanted to do with my future.
But if I have learned anything, it is to rejoice in the “almosts”.
Not dating that fella saved me from the heartache that would’ve happen if it didn’t work out. Not getting an “A” in that class allowed me to work even harder next time & showed me how to study better. Not getting that internship or job opportunity is God closing a door for something that really wasn’t meant for me or good for me. And having a set plan for my life and then see it take a sudden turn has allowed me to see how God’s hand is truly over it all, and He really does know best.
I love what a dear friend of mine told me a few months back: with every “no” is the promise of an even greater “yes”.
So whether you’re in a season of in-betweens, “almost’s”, or your life has been full of numerous closed doors— rejoice. He who promised you is faithful, and that goes for everything.
He is just as faithful when you face rejection as He is when you get promoted. He is just as faithful when that door closes as He is when another opportunity arises.
I think it’s so easy to think “what if” when we are faced with “almosts”. What if I stayed with that major? What if I got that job? What if things worked out in that relationship?
Learning to turn all of my doubts and “what if’s” into “but God”. But God closed the door on that relationship because it wasn’t good for me. But God had me change my major beucase He knew I should be in another field. But God closed that door because greater things are to come.
So whenever you are, in whatever season, thinking of whatever “almost” that didn’t happen, I pray that you would be filled with all the joy, knowing that because of Jesus, the best is truly ahead of us.

week 4 of Twosday Tips!!

“Hey!! I’m Hannah and I am a rising junior. I am a Music Ed major so I stay pretty busy! One of my favorite things about college is the chance to meet new people. Don’t allow yourself to stay in your dorm, even if that is what seems most comfortable!! Use this opportunity in your life to meet to people, pour into others, and be poured into! There are lots of opportunities to grow in your faith while at a Christian college, but don’t expect it to just happen without any effort. You have to seek out Christ-centered community and invest your time in it, and Delight is such a great place to start!!”
