With many newer smoke alarms featuring 10-year batteries, the messaging around smoke alarms and batteries has evolved.

As begins this Sunday, remember to adjust your clocks and check your smoke alarm batteries—only if needed. Don't forget to test your alarms monthly.

February is Black History Month—and this year marks its 100th anniversary.

In “100 Years and Counting: Celebrating Black History,” Dr. Takiyah Nur Amin traces the roots of Black History Month to community, care, and determination. Long before official recognition, Black families, educators, and elders created spaces to teach and remember a shared history that was too often denied or erased.

This centennial is not only a moment to look back—it is a reminder of how Black history has always been taught, protected, and shared across generations, and how deeply it continues to shape our understanding of freedom, democracy, and collective responsibility.

Unitarian Universalists answered the call by the hundreds, driving and flying from around the country to bear witness in the place where a federal officer shot an unarmed woman to death. They joined thousands of their fellow clergy, bundled in thick coats for protection against the bitter subzero cold.

And together, Unitarian Universalists and other people of faith marched and sang and prayed in Minneapolis on Friday, sending a powerful, unified message: that love is greater than ICE.

Get pictures and first-person accounts from the day's events in the story linked below, from UU World.

MARCH

01/22/2026

We hold the people of Minneapolis in our hearts and our prayers as they face an escalating ICE presence and increasing violence. We know that many communities across our country are experiencing similar actions and we remain in solidarity with you all.

Our historic Unitarian Universalist tradition reminds us that we are the people we've been waiting for. It takes all of us, centering love and committed to building a future where all people can thrive, to defeat oppression and nurture a loving world.

As the Jan 23rd Day of Truth & Freedom unfolds, follow our channels for ongoing reports from UU World, whose staff are on the ground in Minneapolis now.
