Margaret Bearden Hughes, 90, of Dalton GA was a loving wife, mother, mamaw, sister, and friend. Margaret passed away on August 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Arthur and Lucille Bearden on October 16, 1932. She was a lifelong member of The Church of God of the Union Assembly. Margaret was the center of her family. She lived a life of selflessness and service to others. She was always in the kitchen preparing a meal for not only her family but also anyone that was in need. She strived to make sure that the people she met knew that she loved them. She was a diehard Alabama Crimson Tide Football fan. She was wife to Rev. Paul Hughes, mother to Paul (Mavis) Hughes, Don (Karen) Hughes, Sharon (Ron) Moody, and Paula Crider.
She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Paul Hughes; parents, Arthur and Lucille Bearden; daughter, Paula Crider; siblings, Howard Bearden, Janelle (Bryson) Spinks, Wanda Sue (Jimmy) Mathis; and, in-laws George (Patricia) Hughes, Minnie Kate Hughes, Joann Richardson, Pratt Hughes
She is survived by her children, Paul (Mavis) Hughes, Don (Karen) Hughes, and Sharon (Ron) Moody; grandchildren, Javetta ( Toby) Lodge, Rocklan (Jeni) Hughes, Delicia (John) McGill, Jagade (Lisa) Hughes, Jesslyn Hughes, Brant (Treanna) Hughes, Judson (Danielle) Hughes, Nathaniel (Mikasta) Moody, Chastain (Ashley) Moody, Kellie (Seth) Pierce, Lindsay Ridley , Todd Kimble, Dillon (Mikayla) Kimble, Abigail Crider; twenty-five (25) great-grandchildren; six (6) great-great grandchildren; in-laws, Jesse W. (Jean) Hughes, Francis Bearden, and Marcia Hughes; special nieces and nephews, Delane (Yvette) Mathis, Renetta (Johnny) Smith, Mark (Maranza) Mathis, and many more.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Stoney Kiser and Rev. Charlie Pratt officiating at The Church of God of the Union Assembly. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Love Funeral Home.
