In 1871 our pastor at that time, Father Magnus Mayr, traveled to Rome. He brought back this extraordinary icon (not picture) of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, which was blessed by Pope Pius IX. Father Mayr presented it to our church right before her feast day June 27th that year. This icon at one time hung on the east wall and was miraculously rescued from the church fire of 1902. This icon holds a very special place in our church’s history. Years ago crutches, canes, and wheelchairs were left in front of her altar as a reminder of a miracle that occurred. She has now blessed our parish for 155 years!
The GA evangelization team is offering a way to honor, celebrate, and share in an act of mercy. Starting this Friday, June 19th we will gather each night for a 9-day novena, concluding on her feast day, June 27th. Please come each evening at 6:30 in the church and spend some time in prayer for the sick and dying, the less fortunate, our church, and our country to ask for her intercession. This will be bilingual. Bring a friend; all are welcome. Join us one night or all the nights if you can!
