In God’s Kingdom, the harvest is not confined to just one season but is a daily activity. Jesus highlighted this fact in John 4:35, “Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” Chaplains and volunteers are witnessing such a field, ripe for harvest, each day in the confines of a jail cell. Society may see the incarcerated as the unpleasant of humanity. Look through the eyes of Jesus, and you will see harvest fields behind bars as far as the eye can see in every direction.

Van’s testimony begins in jail, as an inmate. At 20 years old he was sentenced to 9 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. During that time, he heard a chaplain's presentation of the gospel that God used to catch Van’s attention and change his life. After his release he went to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where he finished a bachelor's degree in Integrated Ministry Studies. Van, his wife, and their two children, moved to Virginia in May of 2021. They are convinced that God has led them here to work with the ministry at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Van has always said that his testimony is not about him, as much as it is about the power of God and the power of this ministry. Yes, he is back in jail, but this time as a chaplain to bring hope to the forgotten. “It is an honor to walk with Christ in such a dark place”

Over two year ago COVID shut down the world, our ministry's efforts were not exempt. We have slowly been able to restart many of our programs and we are thrilled to announce that we have finally been able to restart our bible study classes for our inmates.
