Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at the University of Virginia is a body of college students earnestly following Jesus, who come together to worship our amazing God, to learn His Word, to be discipled, to encourage one another and pray, and to have fun making friendships that will last a lifetime! Even though our name is Gre

ek, we're not a fraternity or sorority. However, if you're looking for brothers and sisters, you've come to the right place. In Chi Alpha, all we do is guided by our three anchors: real devotional life, real community, and real responsibility. Real Devotional Life: Our desire is that every student would have a vibrant, personal relationship with God. We believe that a real devotional life is necessary to maintain a solid relationship with God. Through spending time in the Word, and communicating with God frequently, fervently, and with great faith, we can experience God and live the life we are called to live. Real Community: We are made for community! We believe that the greatest transformation occurs when we are living in real community with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. That is why we consider the most important part of Chi Alpha to be our Core Groups. Real Responsibility: We believe that every Christian has an outward responsibility and should play a role in global missions, relational evangelism, and justice. In Chi Alpha, we provide students with opportunities to serve on all levels. Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.

Last but not least, we have second-year Vincent Agbeibor sharing about his experience at Fall Retreat last year‼️

“I built some of the most meaningful connections that I still have today at UVA during Fall Retreat. It was a great time to get away from the hectic life at school and much easier to hear from God. It was also extremely important to the connections I built with my core group. Once I spent a weekend with a group of people who I thought I knew decently, I found myself starting to get to know them far beyond the surface level.

When I first arrived, I remember being completely shocked by the number of people that had actually shown up, and I did not really know what to expect out of it. However, by the end of the first night I knew I had made the right decision to go. The Lord made it clear to me at fall retreat that throughout my time at college, this was the community that I needed to stay a part of. From putting together extremely last second costumes to deep late night talks, Fall Retreat was a first semester highlight. Apart from how much fun it was, I genuinely felt my relationship with the Lord grow during this time, and looking back at it I realize how crucial it was to my first year at UVA, when I was not sure if I would find the right Christian community.

““Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” -1 Thessalonians 5:11

The community you’ll find at Fall Retreat is one that will encourage you and build you up. I strongly recommend going because of the fun time you’ll have, and most importantly the time you’ll spend with the Lord that will last much longer than just the weekend.”

Thank you so much for sharing Vincent, and we are so grateful that you are a part of our community! 🙌

‼️FALL RETREAT STUDENT FEATURE TIME‼️

Over the next few days, we are highlighting Fall Retreat and what this weekend is all about 🙌 Starting us off is second-year Lucas Addison, sharing about his experience at Fall Retreat ⬇️

“Fall Retreat was such a pivotal moment in my first year at UVA. Starting out, I didn’t know many people, and I was very stressed from the pace of college life. I joined a core group in September, and was encouraged to sign up for Fall Retreat my second night, so I did!

Going to Fall Retreat was the change of pace that I needed. The campground is a quiet place where I was able to spend time meeting new people, learning more about Scripture, and being in the presence of the Lord. That one weekend at Fall Retreat allowed me to recenter myself in Christian life, make friends that I am still close with, and move on to be a leader in Chi Alpha. If you’re on the fence about going to Fall Retreat, I think that you should take the step to go!”

Thank you so much for sharing Lucas! We are so thankful for how the Lord used Fall Retreat to deepen your relationship with God and friends! It’s a weekend you all don’t want to miss 🔥

Up next, we have second-year Anna Beth Thorne sharing about why she loves Chi Alpha core groups! Check it out ⬇️

“My Chi Alpha core group was a clear answer to prayer. The overflowing love I found with them was absolutely foundational to my first year at UVA, and it continues to be such a blessing to my life as a whole. Core group was not only a space where I grew immensely in my knowledge and relationship with the Lord, but a group of girls that I have cried, prayed, and laughed with for hours on end (literally). Outside of our weekly meetings we had so many adventures that have become my most favorite memories of first year. A specific memory that I’ll never forget was dressing up as Pitbull for fall retreat…and keeping our bald caps on for the entire night–through extended worship, a dance party, and prank wars. From our very first meeting, the girls in my core group became some of my closest friends and have continued to impact me in so many incredible ways. I am especially thankful for my first year leaders who have provided me with so many words of wisdom and encouragement and have guided me through all of the ups and downs that life has to bring. As cliche as it is, my core group is my family, and I can only hope that everyone has the opportunity to experience the same love and joy that I have found with them! If you are on the fence about getting involved in a Chi Alpha core group, please please do it! There are very few experiences as life-giving as being a part of this community of incredible people growing and pursuing Christ together–and having an absolute blast along the way!”

Thank you for sharing Anna Beth! We are so thankful that God provided you with a group of sisters in Christ who can encourage you! 🥰

‼️STUDENT FEATURE TIME‼️

Today for our student feature, we have second-year Noah White sharing about what core groups in Chi Alpha mean to him ☺️ Read below! ⬇️

“When I came to UVA last year, I was anxious to find a good friend with whom I could confide in and feel supported by, and lickety-split, my core group included some of my first friends. Far exceeding what I thought I wanted, God blessed me with guys who cared about me and who trashbagged and ate too many hot dogs with me. Together, we showed each other what it looked like to be striving to love Jesus hard. God showed me what true friendship is through my core group.”

Thank you for sharing Noah! We are so grateful that you are a part of our community 🙌

If you’re looking for a group of friends to eat hot dogs with and pursue Jesus together, click the link in our bio to connect with a core group today 🎉
