St. Bernadette grew up with very little education. She struggled in school and did not learn to read and write well until she was around fourteen years old. Yet God did not choose her because she was educated or important. He chose a poor, humble girl who was willing to listen.
Years later, Bernadette entered the Sisters of Charity of Nevers. She lived a quiet life and left behind only a small number of writings, including personal notes, prayers, and letters to her family. Her words show how deeply she wanted to belong to Jesus. In one prayer, she asked Him for the daily bread of humility, obedience, and charity.
After her death, her body was exhumed several times and was found to be remarkably preserved. Today, her remains rest in Nevers, France.
Her life reminds us that holiness does not depend on how gifted, educated, or noticed we are. It begins with a humble heart that keeps saying yes to God.
