Christ Is Risen...

It's early Friday morning. The disciples watch in horror as their friend has been arrested, mocked, beaten, and sentenced to death. They are fearful and hopeless. The Bible says that the disciples abandoned Jesus on this day, and some even denied that they even knew Him. The risk of persecution, being arrested, or possibly executed was much too great to admit to being His follower. But just a couple days later, something amazing happened. Just as He predicted, Jesus defeated the grave and rose back to life. No longer were the disciples afraid, but now they were confident and bold in their faith. Every one of the disciples would now willingly give their lives for the cause of Christ, without hesitation and without flinching. What changed? The resurrection on Sunday morning gave the disciples a new heart. A life-changing heart. A heart that seeks to live for Christ no matter the consequences. I pray that you, too, would receive a new heart as we celebrate this Easter weekend.

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14)

The goal of this picture was to show someone on the verge of finishing the race. Paul describes the Christian life as a long marathon, living each day for the Lord and getting closer to Him step by step. Even though we are saved, we aren't perfect yet. We strive on to finish this race, with our eyes fixed firmly on the prize. And that prize will be Christ Himself; to be with Him and to be like Him. What a moment that will be when we cross the finish line.
