Charlotte, we need you. 48 State Tour Archives Atlas Preservation is coming to Old Settlers' Cemetery on June 11th and this is your chance to show up for one of the oldest pieces of history in our city.

48StateTour is a national movement traveling all 48 states to document, clean, and preserve historic graveyards before they're lost for good. Old Settlers' dates back to 1776 and is home to Thomas Polk, Charlotte's founding father, Civil War heroes, and generations of people who built this city from the ground up. These are stories worth protecting.

Come out, get involved, and be part of preserving something that belongs to all of us. Free and open to the public, 9am to 3pm at 200 W 5th St.

Visit 48statetour.com for more details and the full tour schedule.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who served our country and now rest here at Historic Elmwood Pinewood & Settler’s Cemetery.

Their stories are part of Charlotte’s history, woven into the paths, monuments, and headstones throughout these grounds.

Take time to walk through, reflect, and learn more for yourself. There’s something powerful about standing where history still speaks. 🇺🇸

His name was Joe McNeely. He was 22 years old. He was lynched in Charlotte, NC in 1913 — and buried in an unmarked grave.

This year at Voices From The Past, poet Jay Ward debuts an original poem bringing his story back to the surface.

Some histories are uncomfortable. That’s exactly why we show up.

Some stories deserve to be remembered… and heard.

This year at Voices From The Past, we’re honored to welcome Junious “Jay” Ward, who will debut an original poem sharing the story of Joe McNeely, laid to rest in Pinewood Cemetery. It’s a powerful moment of reflection, offering space to acknowledge a difficult but important piece of our local history.

We’ll also be joined by Queen Charlotte as we celebrate America 250, bringing history to life in a way that’s both meaningful and memorable.

Media opportunities are available, including interviews with our costumed historians, Poet Laureate Jay Ward, and Queen Charlotte. For details or to schedule a segment, please contact Lynn Mintzer at 980-439-1927.

We’re honored to gather again this year, to remember, reflect, and ensure these stories continue to live on.
