Labor Day meditation

In his book, “Sabbath as Resistance”, Walter Bruugemon argues that Sabbath and rest are not only vital to humanity and the covenant but it resists the empire. When we rest, as God has rested on the Sabbath. We are choosing to say that our humanity itself is good without having to be a cog in the machine, without having to have production value.

Labor Day celebrates the value in our humanity and balance of life. The tenants of the labor movement work to ensure a balance of life can go and the covenant flourish. As we continue the work of the labor movement and workers movement may we continue to see the dignity in all.
