Fri., Oct 23 Suffering
Acts 9:16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.
Suffering is not optional. For Paul, it was extensive and led to his death. For us it is very real. We will have to consider and reconsider every choice. There will be times when we will want to quit or beg to take the easy way. We will wonder “why God?” The answer is simple: because God is worth it. Doesn’t make it easy. Won’t solve the problem (now). But I hope it gives you strength to meet the day and be the light.

October 25 • Isaiah’s Call: It’s Going to be Hard!
Isaiah 6:1–8 (NIV); Luke 14:25–33 (NIV)
On this Reformation Sunday, we are going to see how Luther’s call story mirrored Isaiah’s. Both had a dramatic encounter with God, both thought that they were too sinful, and both were told that this call was going to be incredibly hard. Sound familiar? Is this your call story? Rekindle the flame.

Thurs., Oct 22 We must be doers
Matt 7:24 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Jesus understood that following Him meant to act, to do. There is no way we can think our way into Christ-likeness. It would be nice. Imagine if we could think about dieting and lose weight. Nope. To be a Christian is to act like Christ.

Wed., Oct 22 Y’all ARE the sign
Matt 5:16 In the same way, let Y’ALL’s light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. The light we shine allows others, who are lost, to find truth. The “you” here and through the Sermon on the Mount is plural, y’all. That light shines when we are shining together. Jesus expected that we would be a collective and that is how the world would know His Truth. Pray out loud with another Christian today.

Tues., Oct 20 Light of the World
Acts 13:47 This is what the Lord has commanded, you see:
I have set you for a light to the nations, so that you can be salvation-bringers to the end of the earth.”
Here Paul reworks a prophetic message from Isaiah and applies it so that the new Christians can hear it. Our salvation is not for ourselves but for others, says the Lord. Who in your life is looking at you and taking note about whether this Jesus stuff matters?

Mon., Oct 19 Fruit of the Spirit
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
If we live in the Spirit we can be guided by Him, as well. Every Christian can exhibit any or all of the fruits. That makes this a good test of how far along we are in our spiritual journey. Which are easiest for you? Which will you focus on this week?
