On this very special Pentecost Sunday, Our Lady of Consolation joyfully celebrates Deacon James Johnson IV as he gave his first homily following his ordination to the diaconate.
Reflecting on the Gospel of John, Deacon James reminded us that even in moments when fear causes us to close ourselves off like the disciples behind locked doors, Jesus still enters in and speaks peace over our lives. His message encouraged us to make room for Christ in the places where we feel uncertain, overwhelmed or afraid and to trust the movement of the Holy Spirit.
We are thankful to everyone who joined us for this special day in the life of our parish and for the love shown to Deacon James and his family.
We are especially grateful for Auxiliary Bishop-Elect Robert Boxie III of the Archdiocese of Washington DC, Rev. Anthony Bozeman, SSJ of the Archdiocese of Washington DC and Rev. Jeffery Ott, OP of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, along with the clergy, seminarians and religious leaders who came to celebrate and support Deacon James as he begins this new chapter of ministry.
May the Holy Spirit continue to guide him in the days ahead.
