We are grateful to welcome April C. Turner as a guest preacher in this season of shared practice.

April is a community engagement professional, artist, and theologian-in-formation whose work gathers people, stories, and place into deeper relationship. Through her work in Charlotte and beyond, she helps communities move toward connection, creativity, and collective flourishing.

Her life and work echo the questions we are holding in this season:
What does it mean to be rooted in place?
How do we listen well enough to respond with care?

We look forward to receiving the word she will bring among us.

Celebrate the legendary Nina Simone with a day filled with music, soul, and activism.
On April 26th, QC Family Tree and Beloved Community CLT celebrates Nina Simone with music, ritual, and festivities. As with our other Feast Days, our Nina Simone Day is not a national holiday or a church holiday. This is a festive day unique to QC Family Tree and Beloved Community CLT. This is a time of celebrating courage, strength, fierceness, and truth telling.

On Nina Simone day, we play Nina’s music.
On Nina Simone day, we wear red.
On Nina Simone Day, we create armor or talismans for one another and gift it to each other with prayers of protection.
On Nina Simone Day, we sing songs and prayers of intercession, truth, and justice.
On Nina Simone day, we build a fire and watch the flames flicker as we pray that lies will be burned away by embers of justice and truth.

Ring the Bells!!! Some folks hold a tradition of burying alleluias during lent, refraining from saying or singing alleluia throughout the 40 days of prayer, reflection, and repentance. To celebrate, on Easter Sunday morning, folks ring joyful bells every time that Alleluia is said or spoken. Ring the Bells! Hallelujah!

Good Friday invites us to pause and tell the truth about suffering—where it lives in us, in our communities, and in the world we share.

We remember that love does not turn away from harm. It draws near, names what is broken, and refuses to let it have the final word.

Today, we hold space for grief, for honesty, for the weight of what is not yet healed. And we remain rooted in the quiet, defiant hope that even here, transformation is taking shape.
