ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine (BP) – Russia’s deadly strike on a Baptist church in Zaporizhzhia during an April 16 prayer meeting was a targeted atrocity against Christianity and benevolence, religious freedom advocates including those associated with the church told Baptist Press.

✅ STATE AUDIT: BAPTISTS ON MISSION PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS ON HELENE RELIEF SPENDING

A new state audit of Hurricane Helene relief spending by Baptists on Mission found the nonprofit fully complied with all grant requirements — and delivered home repairs at a fraction of the expected cost.

The NC Office of the State Auditor reviewed $3 million in state grant money and found Baptists on Mission in "full compliance" with all standards.

📊 By the numbers:
• 472 home repair projects completed (Feb–Oct 2025)
• $6,392 average cost per repair from grant funds
• ~$20,000 was the original estimated cost per home
• Projects in Boone, Burnsville, Spruce Pine, Hendersonville, Marion, Canton, Weaverville, and Swannanoa
• 6 rebuild centers set up to house and feed volunteers

The savings came from volunteer labor, bulk purchasing, and disaster relief discounts from retailers.

State Auditor Dave Boliek said the combination of public funds and nonprofit motivation "should be replicated moving forward." No recommendations were made.
