St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John's Episcopal Church St. John’s Episcopal is a multi-generational church family in suburban South Charlotte. We invite you to be a part of our community.

We hold dear the personal relationships that grow out of actively following Jesus together throughout all the stages of life. Our identity statement is a good reflection of the culture you’ll find at St Johns:
Come As You Are, Engage In Faith

Come as you are – because we all start somewhere. And wherever you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here. We want you to feel comfortable. We t

end to have a more relaxed culture than you might expect given our liturgical style of worship. On Sunday you may worship among suits and blue jeans. You’ll find we love the outdoors - from our splendid church garden to the fly-fishing ministry – many of our parishioners encounter the Holy Spirit in nature. We offer ministries for all ages & stages, from hands-on to contemplative, including a strong youth program, and we love to have fun together. A strength of St John’s is our ability to respect differences and find common ground in Christ. In our church you will be cared for, according to Jesus’s example, no matter who you are. Whatever your perspective, your baggage, your orientation, your political affiliation, your race, your identity, your background, your abilities, your age, your socioeconomic status – you are invited into our extended church family. We are all created in the image of God. We believe everyone brings value as a unique reflection of God’s image. So please, come as you are.

Engage in Faith – because we are a “doing” church. We want you to come as you are, but not stop there. We don’t want you to sit on the sidelines. Engaging in faith means, getting to know each other on a deeper level, wrestling with the big questions together, feeding the hungry, caring for the community, celebrating God’s majesty through worship, and growing into the image of Christ by prayerfully following Jesus’s teachings throughout our week, not just on Sunday. Staying engaged isn’t always easy, but it’s our commitment to letting the Holy Spirit work through our community to make a better world. Our church family is dynamic and vibrant. Just check out the many ways to engage in this week’s announcements. We each bring our unique perspectives, we engage with each other, with scripture and with the Holy Spirit, and we all grow together. John’s is part of The Diocese of North Carolina, The Episcopal Church, and The Anglican Communion. Click on the links to learn more about them. Consider this your invitation to come and experience our community for yourself. Or feel free to reach out to our clergy or church office for more information.

Lemonade in the Lobby is back! 🍋

We're excited to kick off another summer of fellowship and ministry highlights at St. John's. Throughout the summer, different ministries and groups will be hosting Lemonade in the Lobby after the 10:15 service, giving everyone a chance to learn more about the many ways people serve and connect in our church family!

This Sunday, we're kicking things off with our wonderful Handbell Choir, led by Greg McAbee. Their music is a true gift to St. John's, and we're grateful for the dedication, talent, and joy they bring to our worship throughout the year!

Be sure to stop by after the service to grab a glass of lemonade, say hello, learn more about the handbell ministry, and thank them for all they do. If you've ever been curious about ringing bells, you'll also be able to learn about an upcoming Handbell Workshop on August 26 at 6:00 PM for anyone interested in exploring the ministry or potentially joining the choir. More details will be shared as the date approaches.

We hope you'll join us this Sunday!

As we journey through the summer months, we ask you to join us in keeping our clergy in your prayers.

Our Rector, Fr. Peter, has begun a well-deserved sabbatical, a season of intentional rest, renewal, study, and spiritual refreshment that allows clergy to step away from the daily responsibilities of ministry and return renewed for the work God has called them to do.

At the same time, Deacon Wendy continues her recovery from back surgery. We pray for strength, patience, and continued healing throughout the summer as she focuses on her health and restoration.

While we will certainly miss them both during this season, we are grateful for the many faithful leaders, staff, and volunteers who will help guide our church in the months ahead. We look forward to welcoming Fr. Peter and Deacon Wendy back refreshed and renewed, and we trust that God will continue to bless and sustain our parish family along the way!

Please keep them both in your prayers this summer!

What a joyful and meaningful Youth Sunday at our church yesterday! We celebrated and honored our Class of 2026 graduates, recognized our senior acolytes, and gave thanks for the incredible students who make up our EYC youth ministry. We also shared a very special moment as we “retired” Mr. Jim Riddle after 20 years of faithfully serving and loving our youth so well- what a gift he has been to generations of students and families.

A huge thank you to our Fellowship Committee for helping us kick off the summer with such a fun celebration after the service! From great food and fellowship to waterslides, pony rides, and a beautiful sunny day, it was the perfect way to celebrate our church family together. We are so grateful for everyone who helped make the day so special! ☀️🎉💙
