Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Psalm 118:1
Life doesn’t offer us many certainties. But to those who fear and love the Lord, today’s Bible verse is always true.
Every day when I open my eyes, I wake up knowing that God is good. No matter what happens throughout my day, I know His love is with me. Wherever I go, He is there beside me, watching over me and protecting me, just as He has always done. It doesn’t matter whether I feel the Lord’s presence or not. The very simple fact is, He is there. He is worthy of praise and thanksgiving, whether I feel joy or sadness, regardless of my circumstances. There are always, always so many reasons to lift up His Name and to sing of all His good deeds. And when I close my eyes at night, I can go to sleep knowing He is still the same as He was in the morning.
When we let praise and thanksgiving depend on our own feelings, our current moods or our circumstances, we don’t give the Lord the credit He deserves. That’s why it’s so important for our relationship with Him to be more than just based on emotions. Instead, it should be based on the truths found in His word, on the promises He’s given us and on who God is. Because He never changes, and He keeps His word.
So let us try to be the kind of women who praise God in whether we find ourselves in the storms or in the green pastures, whether we could dance for joy or weep with sadness. Because His Spirit can change everything with a single prayer. He lifts us up above our current situation and helps us see the bigger picture, so we don’t lose hope. When we trust in Him, He will give us the strength to stand firm and give us a peace that doesn’t depend on us. Instead, our joy will be rooted in the God whose love and goodness endures forever.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to praise You on the mountain tops and in the valleys, through tears and while singing for joy. Holy Spirit, keep my mind set on You, because Your love is steadfast and Your peace never fades. You never change, and thanking You always changes me for the better. Amen.
