For the month of June and especially on June 7th the Church celebrates the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, emphasizing that Christ loves us despite our failures.
No matter how broken we are, and no matter how unworthy we tell ourselves we are, God loves us unconditionally. Never lose sight of his Passion, suffering, death, and Resurrection. Never lose sight of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – it burns with His love for us!
Prayer to the Sacred Heart
O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing,
I adore you; I love you and with a lively sorrow for my sins.
I offer you this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to your will.
Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you.
Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions;
give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs,
your blessings on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death.
Within your heart I place my every care.
In every need let me come to you with humble trust saying,
Heart of Jesus, help me.
Amen.
Renew our One Nation Under God
Consecrating the US to the Sacred Heart
This June, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so we are truly One Nation Under God. The consecration is officially set for June 11 in Orlando at the USCCB gathering of all bishops.
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque is the saint who received visions of Jesus revealing His Sacred Heart. When many people doubted her and even opposed her, Saint Claude e la Colombiere, S.J., her spiritual director, listened, believed, and encouraged her. He was a Jesuit priest, a respected homilist, and a confessor for many faithful from the poorest to the most noble, but one of the best things about St. Claude is that his words still speak to us today - very direct, thought provoking, and relatable.
“Jesus is in the midst of us in the Blessed Sacrament… Yet does it not often seem as though we ignored this happiness? Do we often visit him? Do we go to him in our needs and consult him in our plans?”
Through His Sacred Heart is love, hope, and purpose. Saint Claude reminds us that Jesus doesn’t just want a quick prayer when things go wrong. He wants our whole heart—our thoughts, our fears, our worries, our plans.
“As Jesus Christ possesses your whole heart, he wishes also to have all your anxieties and all your thoughts… trust in his goodness for all the rest.”
In other words: Give Jesus everything. Not because He’s demanding, but because He loves us enough to carry what we were never meant to carry alone.
In the Sacred Heart of Jesus we can see, feel, and have a relationship with Jesus – a true friend. People may not always understand us. Friends may disappoint us. Life may overwhelm us. But Jesus never gets tired of us. He never walks away. He never stops loving us.
Even when we fail Him, St. Claude reminds us that Jesus is ready to welcome us back.
This is our call to action, so, let’s realign our lives, communities, and country under the sovereignty of Christ.
