United Methodist Women members we are knitted together in a beautiful, intricately made creative and supportive fellowship. What a blessing that is! Now we have to decide how to stay closely knitted together when it's not safe to gather in groups.
The answer for many groups is to meet using the internet through programs like Zoom. If your unit and circle aren't meeting and you aren't using one of these programs yet, now is the time to start. The waiting is over! There is an urgent need to gather now. Your women are hungering and thirsting to see each other, to learn, grow, share the love of Christ and live out our Purpose in a new and safe way. There are also women who are looking for community and would like to join United Methodist Women. We need to be ready to bring them into our fellowship.
United Methodist Women members are bold and ready to try a new thing. For those who are unsure or nervous about meeting online, there is encouragement and support available. Our foremothers have blazed the trail for us! Think of all the new things that have been taken on in the last 150+ years! It's our turn to meet the challenge of our time. We can do this!
There is an abundance of help available on how to use the new technologies and how to help your members join the meetings. Please don't underestimate the power of the women in your group. For example, this past spring two amazing United Methodist Women members in my local unit, who just happened to be 102 and 94 years old, gave the program for my circle on a Zoom meeting. They did a wonderful job!
We need to stay closely knitted together! We know it's good to stretch ourselves and learn new things. I pray you will be part of the leadership that is finding new and creative ways to meet, do mission, to give, be community, love God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, always developing that creative, supportive fellowship, and expanding concepts of mission through participation in the Global Ministries on the church. We can do this!
