THE BEATITUDES: WHAT DOES “BLESSED” REALLY LOOK LIKE?
Matthew 5:1–12
Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount by describing people the world might not call blessed.
The poor in spirit.
Those who mourn.
The meek.
Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
The merciful.
The pure in heart.
The peacemakers.
Those persecuted for righteousness.
God’s Kingdom turns the world’s definition of success upside down.
The world says, “Be powerful.”
Jesus says, “Be meek.”
The world says, “Get even.”
Jesus says, “Be merciful.”
The world says, “Promote yourself.”
Jesus says, “Hunger for righteousness.”
Being blessed doesn’t mean life will always be easy. It means we are living under the favor and rule of God—even when circumstances are difficult.
