Second Presbyterian Church

Second Presbyterian Church Sunday Worship at 10:30 a.m. Midweek small groups
Online church at www.2ndpc.org/online-church

Second Church is a visionary participant in the downtown cultural and spiritual renewal taking place in Charleston and across the country. It's building something few churches will ever have the opportunity to do and that even fewer will respond to. We are seizing God's call to be a part of it, and we are always looking for visionaries, revolutionaries, and humble dissenters-- who relish the thought of taking "old" church and making all things new in Christ.

Support Star Gospel Mission this weekend as they offer us a way to come together to walk in love, reframe homelessness and meet the needs of our community.

Can’t participate in Walk In Their Shoes this year? You can “Walk in Love”, in many different ways.

Sponsor a participant, support a team or individual fundraiser, or give directly to Star Gospel Mission to help create opportunities for healing, restoration, and new beginnings for men, women, and families in our community.
Visit https://secure.qgiv.com/event/awalkintheirshoes2026/ or contact Mrs. Theresa Watters for more information on how to get involved or give today.

We are not orphaned. We are entrusted to do that for which we were created. Where Jesus goes we are invited to follow—not by levitation or climbing, but by becoming… like Jesus.

Rev. Cress Darwin delivers a message on Luke 24:49-53, read by Lynlee.

The Spartina Consort, including our Director of Music, Dr. Julia Harlow will be playing in Piccolo Spoleto Festival this Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Some things never change!

In 1607, the composer and musician John Coprario had to live with the whims of princes and potentates getting in the way of business as ordinary as ordering new strings—as this letter attests! But even in an age of political and religious turmoil, musicians were still writing and playing boundary-pushing new music that freely borrowed from across national and confessional divides.

Come hear music by Coprario, Dowland, and others: Spartina Consort at Piccolo Spoleto's Early Music Series: A Pilgrimes Solace this Friday at 3PM!

When Thomas asks, “how can we know the way,” Jesus comforts their troubled heart (singular) by reassuring them they already know the way because Jesus has embodied the fullness of God.

Guest preacher Rev. Steven Baines delivered a message for the week of May 3 on John 14:1-6, read by liturgist and communion celebrant Rev. Catherine Parler.

Our Women’s Circle Bible Study meets today for the final lesson in the “Finding Resilience, Joy, and Our Identity in Jesus Christ” study. Lesson 9 takes us through two apostles’ time on the road to Emmaus mourning Jesus’ crucifixion. Along the way they encounter Jesus without recognizing him, even after the women of their group who tended to the tomb had told them of Jesus’ resurrection. Are women believed?

That the apostles think the women’s testimony was an idle tale is part of Luke’s intended narrative. Luke shows these women sharing good news of the resurrection. The male disciples did not understand when Jesus said he would rise again or they did not believe that he would rise so soon. The women, on the other hand, were the ones who believed first, the ones who were at the tomb first, and the ones who went and told of the resurrection first.

Maybe that the Bible includes women as first witnesses is further evidence that the resurrection actually happened, as convention would have it that this testimony would come from men. Jesus apparently had a different plan. Jesus believed in Mary Magdalene and the women to carry his message into the world. He trusted them with sharing the Easter message, “Christ has risen. Christ has risen indeed!”
