Here is another excerpt from Dr Kit Perona-Wright’s concert at Old St. Andrew’s, just over three weeks ago. It is Song without Words, Op. 38, No. 6 in Ab Major, "Duetto": Andante con moto by Mendelssohn. Felix Mendelssohn wrote "Duetto," Op. 38, No. 6 in A-flat major, around 1836 as part of his third book of Lieder ohne Worte (Songs without Words). The piece gets its name because it features two distinct, interwoven melodic voices that converse like a vocal duet between two singers.

Kit was back playing in his own church yesterday; St. Peter’s Leckhampton in Gloucestershire. The choir were away, and Kit was playing the organ along with his son Toby, who was playing the trumpet on Jesus joy of man’s desiring by J S Bach and Jeremiah Clarke’s Trumpet Voluntary.

This afternoon Regis Homines (The King’s Men) - the men’s voices from The King’s Counterpoint, are singing Evensong at Old St. Andrew’s at 4.00pm. The weather forecast is good all through the day and last night’s rehearsal heard the ensemble in wonderful voice. Come and be part of a traditional Anglican Evensong in the oldest church south of Virginia, and the twenty-fifth oldest church in the United States. Hear the King’s Counterpoint’s countertenors, tenors and basses observing this ancient liturgy.

Evensong is believed to be descended from the traditions and practices of the medieval monastic offices of the Roman church and marks the passing of another day in faith. Only about 45 minutes long and featuring choral music, readings and prayers, Evensong has inspired compositions from some of the finest composers through the centuries.

Join REGIS HOMINES - The Men of The King's Counterpoint - as they present a very special Service of Choral Evensong at historic Old St. Andrew's Parish Church in Charleston. A predominantly sung service that's held daily in the English Anglican tradition, Evensong is believed to be descended from th...

Sunday, 9th August, at the 11.15 service of Holy Communion, it was the last Sunday that we had Dr Kit Perona-Wright and his family, Emma, Molly and Toby, with us before they returned to their home in Cheltenham, England, the following day.

The Anthem at the Offertory was a wonderfully moving rendition of Cornerstone by Myrin, Morgan, Liljero and Mote, arranged by Heather Sorenson. Kit played the piano and the family sung in the choir, with the addition of Sam Smoak on trumpet, and it was a fitting end to a marvellous visit. There is talk of this leading to a twinning with the Perona-Wright’s church of St. Peter’s, Leckhampton in Gloucestershire. We will keep you updated!

Choral Evensong returns to Old St. Andrew’s this Sunday, 23rd August at 4.00pm, with Father Marshall being the Officiant.

Regis Homines, the men of The King's Counterpoint, are singing music by Herbert Sumsion, William Harris and George Elvey. Together with congregational hymns and readings from scripture, the service last approximately 45 minutes.

Come and enjoy this contemplative service of worship, and absorb the atmosphere and spirituality of our beautiful church on a late Sunday afternoon.

The attached clip is of the choir singing Psalm 61 when they were in Brittany, France last year.

Just over two weeks ago Dr Kit Perona-Wright gave a concert on our organ and piano entitled, An Hour with Dr. Kit Perona-Wright & Guests. He played three solo pieces on the piano, one of which was Pathetique: Movement No. 2 by Beethoven. The work was beautifully played and left a lasting memory with all those who attended the concert.

Kit and his family are now back at home in Cheltenham, England and we hope we will see them all again in the not too distant future.

Sun, sand and Sunday service (maybe I’m pushing the alliteration attempt too far). We had a fabulous Beach Weekend!

Dr. Kit played for our 9.00am service of Holy Communion on Sunday, 2nd August, and his spirited piano playing in our final song truly helped us lift our voices in love and praise as our worship ended!

Come and join us again this Sunday, 9th August, at both the 9.00am and 11.15am services, when he and his family, Emma, Molly and Toby, will be joining us for the last time before they return to England the following day.
