This weekend, youth from around the diocese gathered at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Charleston WV for the second annual Diocesan Acolyte Festival. This event, planned by Diocesan Youth Council, included prayer, bible study, a presentation about Peterkin Camp and Conference Center, painting a canvas labyrinth, and "liturgical Lincoln Logs," a game in which youth used Lincoln Logs to design liturgical processions. The festival wrapped up with the youth acolyting at St. Matthew's 10:30 Sunday morning Eucharist. Thank you to St. Matthew's, Diocesan Youth Council, and all those whose participation and planning made this possible!

Heavy rains on July 21 brought significant flooding to communities around the state, especially Lewis, Upshur, and Raleigh Counties. As emergency crews assess the impact, the Diocese will share how we can best support our neighbors in the days ahead.

Over the past 24 hours, communities throughout West Virginia have been devastated by extreme weather including rain, flooding, and high winds, and diocesan leaders are working to connect with congregations in affected areas. The full extent of damage is still being determined; power outages, inaccessible roads, and the timing of some of the the storms in the evening means that the light of this new day will help responder assess damage and determine needs.

For now, we pray for all those experiencing flooding, including those responding to the flooding.

God of compassion,
you hear the cries of all who are in trouble or distress;
accept our prayers for those whose lives are affected by storms and flooding:
strengthen them in their hour of need,
grant them perseverance and courage to face the future
and be to them a firm foundation on which to build their lives;
this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.
