Young adults of Charleston, Alonzo and Brian have the next round of Theology on Tuesdays coming at you TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. upstairs in the Whiskey Room at Henry’s on the Market, and this time, they'll be talking about why The Odyssey has once again become a cultural phenomenon.

How is it that a 2700-year old-story still resonates––and has become a blockbuster movie, earning $1.4 billion (and counting) at the box office? Homer's Odyssey, written in the 7th or 8th century B.C., is the original epic tale exploring timeless themes like loyalty, temptation, courage, and the role of God(s) in the lives of men. What is it about this story that has caused its enduring popularity, and why has it struck a cultural nerve in its latest iteration as a cinematic blockbuster? Young adults, come join Alonzo and Brian tomorrow evening for a robust discussion about this iconic story and Christopher Nolan's film depiction.

As always, park for free in the church parking lot, help yourself to pizza and water (provided––cash bar available), and ask any questions you’d like anonymously through a texting app.

See you TONIGHT!!

Young adults of Charleston, Alonzo and Brian have the next round of Theology on Tuesdays coming at you TOMORROW at 7:00 p.m. upstairs in the Whiskey Room at Henry's on the Market to continue the "Saintly Summer" miniseries! (Remember, there's no better time than the summer to invite new friends out for a great evening talking about life and God! It's still sort of summer, right??)

Last time, Alonzo and Justin held an engaging discussion about the life, ministry, and teachings of Saint Augustine. Twentieth-century theologian Jaroslav Pelikan said this about Augustine: “There is probably no Christian theologian––Eastern or Western, ancient or medieval or modern, heretical or orthodox––whose historical influence can match his … In a manner and to a degree unique for any Christian thinker outside the New Testament, Augustine has determined the form and the content of church doctrine for most of Western Christian history.” As we said in our previous discussion, there is just no way we can fully cover this beloved saint in half an hour! Therefore, Alonzo and Brian are going to continue our look into Augustine this week, this time with a deep dive into his most enduring work, "Confessions." It is safe to say that "Confessions" deserves a top spot on any list of essential Christian reading––come find out why!

As always, park for free in the church parking lot, help yourself to pizza and water (provided––cash bar available), and ask any questions you'd like anonymously through a texting app.

See you TOMORROW!!
