Did you know that our synagogue archives have a chair from the Camp David negotiations between Israel and Egypt in 1978?
WOWK reporter Maddy Sperling tells the story, with contributions from Delegate Mike Pushkin, Rabbi Adam Berman, and Magistrate Gary Sheff.
It is a story of hope; we learn from the Camp David Accords that when nations decide to coexist instead of fight, peace can come quicker than anyone had thought.
It is a story of modern, inclusive Judaism; the chair was donated in honor of the first Bat Mitzvah ("Bat Torah") held in our community.
And it is the story of a small-but-vibrant Jewish community with a proud past, honored to guard a piece of American history.

This week's Torah reading, Beha'alotcha, begins with a description of one of Judaism's oldest symbols: the seven-branched, golden menorah.

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈
At B'nai Jacob, we strive to be an inclusive and welcoming space to all. Kevod habriyot, respect for all humanity, is one of our central values. We recall that each and every human being was created in the image of the Divine (Genesis 1:27).

We are overflowing with song after hosting Rabbi Deborah Sacks Mintz. And what a weekend it was! 🎶

Thursday night's concert at Temple Israel drew nearly 100 people, and Friday and Saturday each brought a good crowd together for Shabbat services and communal meals at B'nai Jacob.

Due to our traditional Jewish observance, we do not have photo evidence of the Shabbat events. Trust us: it was special! (You can watch a recording of the Shabbat morning service on our YouTube channel. Link in the first comment.)

We are thrilled to have been able to collaborate with Temple Israel to make world-class Jewish experiences happen right here in Charleston. A heartfelt thank you to Rabbi Deborah for sharing her extraordinary artistry and spirit with us, and to the leadership of the synagogue and the temple for coming together to make this happen. 🕍✨

We hope to welcome Rabbi Deborah back to West Virginia again soon, and we look forward to many more opportunities for our community to come together, sing, celebrate, and inspire one another. Stay tuned for more exciting events in the future!

Let us know in the comments: what was your favorite part of the weekend?
