Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 11 at 5:00 p.m. as we gather at St. Stephen’s to kick off Charleston Pride Week with a diocesan wide Pride Evensong.

Join us for a beautiful Evensong as we celebrate the expansive love of God and the truth that there is a place for everyone at God’s table. Singers from across the diocese will come together as one choir, with a special debut of Dominick DiOrio’s Our Wildest Imagining, a moving new work inspired by the stories, sermons, and sayings of the Church’s first openly gay bishop, the Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson.

The Rt. Rev. Ruth Woodliff Stanley will offer the homily, and the evening will conclude with a light reception and fellowship.

Come as you are. Come celebrate who God has created you to be. All are welcome at St. Stephen’s!

A Lowcountry native, Todd is also a musician, songwriter, and author whose experiences have shaped his appreciation for grace, inclusion, and service.

We often think of Jesus' parables as comforting stories with simple moral lessons. But what if they were meant to unsettle us instead?

Again and again, Jesus tells stories that challenge our assumptions about fairness, justice, forgiveness, wealth, power, and even God. The heroes are often the least likely people. The endings are unresolved. The "good" people are sometimes the ones who miss the point. Rather than giving easy answers, the parables invite us into deeper questions—and perhaps even transformation.

Join us at 9:45 this Sunday September 6 in Founders Hall , September 13 in Stephen's Hall, and September 20 in Founders Hall as discuss "Parables That Disturb," as we explore three of Jesus' most surprising and challenging stories. Together we will wrestle with the questions these parables raise, and engage in thoughtful conversation. Come prepared to think, to listen, to wonder... and perhaps to leave a little disturbed.

There are several opportunities coming up to learn, serve, and work alongside our community through Charleston Area Justice Ministry (CAJM.)

The Food Insecurity Full Committee will meet Thursday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom to hear an update on the committee’s progress and discuss next steps.

On Sunday, September 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., join the Gadsden Creek Fall Cleanup as part of Beach Sweep and River Sweep. Volunteers will help clear litter from the historic Gadsden Creek salt marsh. Meet across from Johnson Hagood Stadium at Hagood Avenue and Fishburne Street. Bring a water bottle and wear closed toe shoes or mud boots. St. Stephen’s is proud to be a CAJM community partner.

And save the date for the Nehemiah Action on Tuesday, April 20, 2027. Time and location details will be announced later.

The Eucharist reminds us that we are one Body of Christ, even when we cannot physically gather for worship. Through the ministry of our six trained Eucharistic Visitors, members of our parish family who are homebound, hospitalized, or unable to attend worship can receive Holy Communion at home and remain connected to our community.

The Eucharist carried from our altar to their homes is a beautiful reminder: you are still with us, you belong at this table, and you are part of this community.

Thank you, St. Stephen’s parishioners, for your generous donations to Lowcountry Orphan Relief! Your generosity filled two laundry baskets and a wagon with packages of underwear for boys and girls ages 0–18 who are placed in foster care.

These donations were blessed during the 11:00 a.m. service last Sunday and will be delivered to Lowcountry Orphan Relief on September 10, when the St. Stephen’s team will be serving.

The team serves from 9:30–11:30 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month. If you are interested in joining the group, please reach out!

GRAND Sunday is for everyone! While grandparents and grandchildren are at the heart of this special morning, all are welcome to join us for breakfast, games, family photos, and fellowship. It’s also a great chance to peek into our Sunday School classrooms ahead of our September 20 Open House!
