The rivers, creeks, marshes, and tidal waters of the Lowcountry have shaped the Sea Islands for generations. They carry our history, sustain life, hold our memories, and remind us how deeply connected we are to the world God has entrusted to our care.

In Waters That Haunt and Heal, the Rev. Calhoun “Callie” Walpole, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church on Johns Island, invites us to look more closely at the waters that surround us and consider what they ask of us in return.

These reflections are an invitation to remember, to listen, and to recognize the care of our rivers and waterways as more than an environmental concern. It is an act of gratitude, responsibility, and love for this place we call home.

May these stories deepen our connection to the Lowcountry and Sea Islands and inspire us to care for these waters so they may continue to sustain and shape generations to come.
