Thank you to the Jefferson County Historical Society WV for featuring this sacred place during Black History Month. We Appreciate all of our many incredible volunteers who so humbly dedicate their time, energy, and financial resources to preserving this land and protecting those that find rest here.
As Black History Month nears its end, it's an ideal time to spotlight the historic Fairview Cemetery. Named a Jefferson County Historic Landmarks in 2022, the cemetery is the final resting place for African Americans including those formerly enslaved, veterans of World War I, World War II and other conflicts, educators, Storer College officials, ministers, Charles Town's first Black physician, and many others.
