The SJCP would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to our local community gardener, CHAD, for kindly donating plants to our preschool classroom. The tomato and basil plants are particularly aromatic and the children enjoy tending and watering these new additions to our science center.

CHAD has his starter plants at 304 S Johnson St Charles City, where the greenhouse is remarkably active and he was working on his garden beds this past weekend. Stop by and tell him SJCP sent you!

What are you growing in your garden?

During our current studies of insects, Heidi Reams visited the Jack and Jill class to lead a discussion and presentation of different insects and bugs. As another activity, the Humpty Dumpty class engaged in building insect models with blocks and were excited to name their creations.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year is currently open.

St. John Christian Preschool embarked on a field trip to the Charles City Library this week.

Miss Stacey brought her signature energy and passion to our story time. She always has a smile and includes everyone in the room.

Riding on the church bus was a memorable experience, thanks to Mr. Don's skilled driving.

At the library, the students engaged with various art pieces, including murals that sparked their interest. A standout piece in the Mooney Collection was 'Past, Present and Future' by Honore Daumier, which is definitely worth checking out. The Mooney Collection, a complimentary gallery, boasts an extensive collection of art. When viewing 'The Fifty Three Stages of Tokaido,' a five year old student observed, “It looks like the streets are flooded with water” which shows this trip into the community is very educational.

For more art inspiration, the Charles City High School is having their art show currently being held at our local Charles City Arts Center. There is so much culture in our community, go check it all out with your families!

As part of our REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE Study, we've given old shoes new life by planting radishes in them.
We call it:
“Taking root while walking with Jesus”

We're also growing peas inside in decorated planters. They are already starting to sprout.

This past week, we read Eric Carle’s THE TINY SEED. We mixed up our soil and are now ready to plant some of our own seeds.

We have also been adding to our Easter Story bulletins board these past weeks. Our verses have included:

“Thy will be done.” Matthew 6:10

“Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

“For God so love the world that have gave His one and only son.”
John 3:16

When we plant Jesus in our hearts, He will always be with us.

*A special thank you to Charles City Theisen's for the discount on our soil and planting cups and the University of Iowa Extension and Outreach for the donations of seeds.

On Friday, the Jack and Jill class went on a walk to the Floyd County Museum, where they came upon cool sculptures that sparked conversations about children playing. As they strolled, they witnessed a moment when two planes did a cool crossing in the sky, creating a letter X, and they were excited to see buds bursting on tree branches on this first day of spring. Their walk ended back at St. John Lutheran Church in front of the Blessing Box, a testament to the power of community and how they help those in need.

Learning does not just take place in the classroom.

Registration for the 2026-2027 year is now open for children turning 3 and 4 year old before September 15. Stop by the church office for a registration form.
