Memories of Christ Lutheran Church Charleroi

Memories of Christ Lutheran Church Charleroi To be Lutheran is to be Christocentric. To be Lutheran is to deny man's ability to play a role within our faith.

Thus, Lutherans lay it all at the foot of the cross where true man and true God was pierced for the forgiveness of sins. To be Lutheran is to always be pointing to Christ. Christ Lutheran Church is a small congregation of individuals who welcome any visitors, of any background, to worship. Visitors may take communion, when offered, without judgment. The church service is made up of liturgy and hymns and the pastor or lay minister's sermon.

Today is Memorial Day. We remember, honor and give thanks for those in the armed forces who have given their lives for the sake of peace, justice and freedom. We remember the families and loved ones who supported their service, grieve their loss and carry forward their memory and legacy. (ELCA Prayer Ventures)

Heavenly Father, on this day we remember the triumphant entry of Your Son, Jesus, into Jerusalem, a King riding not on a warhorse, but with gentleness upon a donkey, even on a c**t, the foal of a donkey. We worship You for revealing the true nature of Your Kingdom, one not of this world, but established in humility and peace.

Lord Jesus, You came not to be served, but to serve, and You left us an example that we should follow in Your steps. You call each of us to deny ourselves, to take up our cross daily, and to follow You. Help us to embrace this call, understanding that whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Your sake will truly find it.

Father, we thank You for Your boundless love, a love that sees beyond our weaknesses and insecurities. As we reflect on the events leading to the cross, fill us anew with Your Spirit. Grant us the grace to walk in humility, following the gentle path You have shown us. May we not cling to worldly power or recognition, but instead embrace the servant-heartedness of our King.

Strengthen us, Lord, to live lives that reflect the values of Your Kingdom, lives marked by love, sacrifice, and a deep reliance on You. May we learn from Your example, Jesus, and walk in Your footsteps, even as we anticipate the full revelation of Your glory. Amen.

Our CLC luncheon at La Eda’s was a great reunion as always. It was wonderful to see our church family, some of whom we haven’t seen for a long time!

Today we commemorate Nicholas, who died around 342. Little is known about Nicholas, except that he was a bishop in present-day Turkey. According to legend, he was famous for his giving to the poor, and so has become a symbol of anonymous gift-giving. 🎁
