Solid Rock Bible Church A Body of Jesus Followers and a part of the Berean Fundamental Church. "The Same Old New Year"

Each new year brings many things to our lives.

Some of these things can be wonderful! Things like a promotion at work, new life found in a brand new baby, or even just the satisfaction of accomplishing a life goal. Some of the new year’s surprises can be not so much fun. In fact some things can be just awful! It is when these times come that we face one of the biggest challenges that we ever will face. We have the choice to rely on our own str

ength and see how much we can handle, or we can trust on our never failing God to provide exactly what we need. How often is it that we try to do everything ourselves? Like a toddler who learned to tie his shoe, we suddenly feel able to accomplish the clearly impossible tasks that life throws at us. We take them on with a headstrong attitude and try to pummel each one to the ground. As we fight more and more, harder and harder, we start to see our trials almost ganging up on us. Problems we thought we had solved come back and beat on us over and over again. When that time comes we start to see how un-able we truly are. The bible tells us:
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.” 1 Corinthians 1:25 NIV
So if on His worst day, which is never, God is still much more able than us, why do we struggle to trust Him? He has the power to do all things. He has the strength to accomplish anything. He has the wisdom to solve any problem. Sounds like a guy you want on your side right? The truth is this: HE IS! If you are keeping a list of resolutions for this new year add this to it:
“I resolve to trust God’s strength rather than my own, to look to His wisdom in my struggles, and to allow His power to work in my life.”
I encourage you to stick to this one and watch as He moves in your life. It really can be the greatest year yet!

🌟 Message Recap: “Helper’s Help” 🌟

What a rich and encouraging Sunday as we continued in John 14:22–31 and looked at the help Jesus promised His disciples, and the help He still gives to us today.

In this passage, Judas - not Iscariot - asked Jesus, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered by pointing back to love, obedience, and the presence of God with His people. Those who love Him keep His word, and the Father and Son make their home with them.

Jesus also promised the coming of the Helper, the Holy Spirit, who would teach them all things and bring to remembrance everything He had said. What a comfort to know that God does not leave His people to figure everything out alone, He gives us His Spirit to guide, teach, remind, and strengthen us.

We also reflected on the difference between the Judas in John 14 and Judas Iscariot, who would later betray Jesus. In Matthew 26:25, Judas Iscariot asked, “Is it I, Rabbi?” and Jesus knew. Just as Jesus said in John 13:19, He told them ahead of time so that when it happened, they would believe that He is who He says He is.

Even as betrayal, arrest, and the cross were coming, Jesus was still speaking peace to His disciples. He said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you.” This was not the fragile peace the world gives, but the true peace that comes from Christ, the Prince of Peace promised in Isaiah 9:6–7.

We were reminded through John 12:32–33 and John 3:13–15 that Jesus would be lifted up, pointing to the cross, where salvation would be made possible. And after His resurrection, in John 20:19, Jesus stood among His disciples and again said, “Peace be with you.”

The peace of Christ is not just something we admire from a distance, it is something we are called to let rule in our hearts, as Colossians 3:15 reminds us.

The challenge for us?
Receive the Helper’s help. Trust the Holy Spirit to teach and remind you. Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart. And when life feels uncertain, remember that Jesus has already told us the truth, already gone to the cross, and already given us His peace.

Just got a notification that the roofers are all done putting the new coating down at the church building!
We pray now that we get no more moisture inside the building!

05/08/2026

Quick update on the roof coding. The crew is headed home for the weekend. They have locked up and left their trailer on the east side of the church building. Just asking that if everybody could kind of keep somewhat of a watchful eye on it so nobody tampers with it or tries to take it would be awesome! They hope to be completed with this project Wednesday.

05/07/2026

FYI – The Roofing crew is on site at the church building starting work today.
They will be here possibly through Thursday of next week (they won't be working on Saturday or Sunday).
They will be spraying a coating on the roof, to avoid overspray on vehicles, we are advised not to park close to the building during their spraying operation and park up Wind of the building.

🌟 Message Recap: "Got to Get It" 🌟

What a meaningful and eye-opening Sunday as we dug into John 14:7–14 and the powerful truth of truly knowing Jesus!

Jesus told His disciples, “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.” This wasn’t just about head knowledge, it was about a deep, personal understanding of who He is. To know Jesus is to know God Himself, because He perfectly reveals the Father in word, action, and purpose.

As we explored John 14:8–11, we saw Philip asking to be shown the Father, and Jesus responding with a gentle correction: “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know Me?” The challenge is clear, we can be around truth and still miss it if we don’t truly “get it.”

Looking across Scripture: from John 1:14–20 to John 10:30–38 - we were reminded that Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. Everything He said and did was in perfect unity with the Father (John 5:19, John 8:29, John 12:49). He wasn’t acting independently, He was revealing God fully.

We also reflected on moments of doubt and belief, like Thomas in John 20:24–30, and how Jesus meets us even in our questions. Through the Holy Spirit, we are given understanding (1 Corinthians 2:6–16) and empowered to live out our faith boldly (Acts 1:8).

The early church “got it” - and it changed everything. In Acts 2:41, thousands responded, and lives were transformed. When we truly grasp who Jesus is, it leads to action, faith, and a life aligned with Him.

We were reminded that Jesus is our one mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), and through Him we have confidence in prayer (1 John 5:14–15). Even in the face of hardship, like Stephen in Acts 7:59–60, a life rooted in Christ reflects unwavering faith.

The challenge for us?
Don’t just hear it - get it. Know Jesus deeply. Believe fully. Live it out boldly. When you truly understand who He is, it will transform how you live.

🌟 Message Recap: "What Jesus Did!" 🌟

What a powerful and humbling Sunday we had exploring John 13:12-20! After washing the disciples’ feet, Jesus asked them, “Do you understand what I have done to you?” He, their Lord and Teacher, had taken the role of the lowliest servant - kneeling to wash dirty feet as an example of true humility and love.

Jesus said: “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” (John 13:14-15)

What Jesus did was model servant-hearted love that we are called to follow - not just in words, but in action.

We also looked at the incredible love of God in John 3:16, and the call to be doers of the word, not hearers only (James 1:22–25). Jesus knew one of His own would betray Him (John 6:70–71), and we reflected on the deep pain of betrayal by a close friend, as expressed in Psalm 55:12–17 and referenced in John 17:12.

Even knowing the betrayal that was coming, Jesus still washed Judas’ feet and served with perfect love. What a Savior!

The challenge for us? Don’t just admire what Jesus did - do it. Serve one another humbly, love deeply, and live out the example He set.

🌟 Message Recap: "The Fall!" 🌟

Last Sunday in John 12:20–29, we witnessed a profound moment: Greeks seeking Jesus, signaling the widening reach of His mission beyond Israel (echoing John 7:35 and John 1:44). Jesus responds with the stunning truth - “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified” - but then speaks of a grain of wheat that must fall into the ground and die to bear much fruit.

This "fall" isn't defeat - it's the path to true life and glory. Jesus calls us to follow: hating our life in this world to keep it for eternal life (Luke 14:25–27), serving and following Him where He is (Psalm 91:14–16 promises honor and rescue for those who love Him).

We saw His deep humanity in His troubled soul (John 11:33), His agony in Gethsemane (Luke 22:39–46), and the institution of the Lord's Supper (Luke 22:19–20) - all pointing to the cross as the ultimate "fall" that brings salvation to the world, fulfilling the promise to Abraham (Galatians 3:6–9).

The message closed powerfully as we sang "I Can Only Imagine" - a beautiful reminder of the awe we'll feel when we finally stand before Him, the fruit of that grain that fell.
