Our Lady of the Lake - Chapin, SC

Our Lady of the Lake - Chapin, SC Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church offers 4 masses every weekend:
Saturday at 5pm
Sunday at 8am, 10:30am, & 5pm Andrew’s Hall, was in 1988.

In 1978, 18 Catholic families began celebrating mass each week in the hope of establishing a mission parish here in Chapin. Early venues were the old Methodist Church, the old Chapin Rec Center and finally Whitaker funeral home. Father Burton, Pastor of Our Lady of the Hills, Father Suggs, Father Henry Burke and Father Sidney Gilley all had a hand in guiding this growing group toward becoming an i

ndependent parish. Our first mass in the old sanctuary, now known as St. Our mission church was finally recognized as a parish in 1995 by Bishop David Thompson with Father Andrew Vollkomer as Pastor. Today we celebrate mass in a new church made possible by the vision of our parishioners, Father Andrew and the diocese of Charleston. Concepts for our new building evolved as parish growth, building code considerations and diocesan requirements all impacted our planning and design. Through it all our Catholic community persevered with the same vision and spirit that enabled our first Church construction. Vision became reality on April 17, 2016 with the consecration of our new church building by Bishop Robert Guglielmone with a wonderfully church packed event attended by many parishioners, Chapin community leaders, local priests including Father Dennis Willey who was to become our Pastor. In most dioceses of the United States, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi this year on Sunday, June 7, following the traditional rhythm of the calendar shortly after Trinity Sunday. The feast, instituted in 1264 by Pope Urban IV, highlights the Church’s faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. “Corpus Christi” is Latin for “Body of Christ,” drawing our attention to Christ truly present under the appearances of bread and wine.
Throughout history, deep devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament has marked the lives of the saints; by following their example, we too can grow in love for Jesus present in the Eucharist and strengthen our friendship with him through his Body and Blood.
