The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion is the first and only approved Marian Apparition Site in the United States. In 1859, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared three times to a young immigrant woman named Adele Brise, introducing herself as the "Queen of Heaven." She left Adele with a message - to offer her communion for the conversion of sinners and to teach the children what they should know for Salvation. Ever since the Blessed Virgin Mary's apparitions to Adele, a chapel has been on the grounds of the Shrine, marking the sacred space where the Queen of Heaven appeared. In 1871, it was miraculously spared from the most deadly fire in American History that swept across Northeast Wisconsin - the Great Peshtigo Fire. On December 8, 2010, the Bishop of the Shrine's Diocese, under the authority of the Catholic Church, approved the Marian Apparitions and miraculous events that took place on the grounds of the sanctuary as Worthy of Belief. Today, the National Shrine continues to be a sanctuary for those who seek healing - both physical and spiritual; and a sanctuary to those who seek a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through the intercession of our Blessed Mother.

Tradition Is Alive Where Our Lady Appeared

This Saturday, August 15th, is the Solemnity of the Assumption. The first Assumption Procession was held at The Shrine in 1861 by Servant of God Adele Brice herself. Since then, it has grown into one of the Shrine’s largest annual events.

This beloved tradition continues to gather thousands of pilgrims who come together to honor Our Lady at the place where she appeared. Each year, we are reminded that the Blessed Mother was assumed body and soul into Heaven, where she now intercedes for all her children with a mother’s love and care.

Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. by Bishop Donald J. Hying of the Diocese of Madison, followed by a Eucharistic Rosary Procession. Afterward, families are invited to enjoy a family picnic lunch together on The Shrine grounds.

The day also offers a wonderful opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

At 3:30 p.m., the Shrine will host and livestream the beginning of the 54-Day Rosary Novena for Our Nation, led by Father Richard Heilman of United States Grace Force

Come to the place where Our Lady appeared and honor her alongside thousands of fellow pilgrims.

We hope you will join us for this sacred tradition.
