As we journey together into the summer season, we also enter a broader time of discovery—fitting for where we are as a congregation in this interim and transitional time. In that spirit, our summer worship and reflection will focus on Discovering the Psalms. Each week we'll spend time with one of these ancient songs—poems of lament and praise, doubt and trust, fear and fierce hope—and let them speak to where we actually are right now.

We begin with Psalm 46, one of the most beloved: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” The reflection, Ordinary Faith, explores what it means to live from God’s kind of ordinary—a steadier, deeper reality underneath the noise and tumult of our days. This Sunday we also gather at the Lord’s Table. We’ll receive bread and cup together in our circle, as ordinary people held by an extraordinary grace.

Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary and on livestream. Wherever you are this week—however ordinary or overwhelming your days may have been—there is a place for you here.

They are influenced by the music of the early swing period, such as Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Ella Fitzgerald, and Django Reinhardt. They bring fresh, new energy to the genre, and have become a recent favorite of the swing dance groups in central Illinois.

May 31 is Trinity Sunday, a day set aside to reflect on one of Christianity's most important and often confusing ideas. In place of a sermon, three McKinley folks will offer a short reflection on a part of the Trinity: Leslie Crowley (Creator), Julie Birdwell (Jesus) and Alonza Lawrence (Holy Spirit). Their faith stories, combined with scripture, time for contemplation and music, will offer time for you to reflect on your experiences with a Triune God. Please join us at 10:30!

Join members of the McKinley Green Team on Monday evenings (5:30 - 7:00pm) at the Giving Garden. Help us plant, w**d, prune, and harvest. Be a part of making our garden grow and feeding our neighbors. Sign up to volunteer using the link on McKinley's Learn & Serve webpage, or just show up. We hope to see you there.

Are you a home gardener with leftover starter plants? We'd be happy to give them a good home. We are looking for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, and squash. Contact Lara Hebert with any questions.

As the school year winds down, we will lose some of our regular student volunteers at the pantry and others to vacations. So, if you have some extra time on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, please consider helping out at Garden Hills School between 1-3 p.m. to pack boxes and between 3:45-6 p.m. to distribute food and cleanup. There are jobs for all ages and abilities. For more details, contact Jane Cain at [email protected] or 217-649-1082.

The pantry always needs donations of egg cartons and clean plastic grocery bags.
