Introducing our Koinonian of the month, Zach Larsen! Now a few words from Zach on his time here at Koin…

“Hey, I’m Zach,

Coming to UIUC, I was really looking forward to meeting new people and creating new relationships. Since day one, the community at Koinonia and Stratford has exceeded my wildest expectations. I connected with several of my housemates right off the bat, largely through shared interests such as intramural sports and board games. One aspect of living at Koin I find very special is the meals that we eat together. Food is a surefire way to bring guys together, and eating with the other guys at Koin is no exception. Most importantly, many of the guys and girls at Koin and Strat are serious about their faith walks. Living with like-minded Christians encourages me daily and helps me navigate college life wisely.

I’m looking forward to many exciting things to come at Koin Strat!”

Thankful to have you at the house Zach!

Looking back at a little over a year ago when we had barn dance! COVID precautions have prevented us from doing our usual social events such as barn dance, but we still have managed to build a strong community that strives to be Christ-centered and Christ-like. And for that, we are extremely grateful.

We are less than one week away from move-in day!! Here comes another semester that will likely tire all of us out 😳 In the meantime, let's look back at some of the weird sleeping positions and locations that semesters past have produced 😂😂 @ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

New head of Koin's Public Relations incoming!!! Elijah Agapito joins the fight! Read more about the man now behind this account ⬇️⬇️⬇️

"Hi!!! My name is Elijah Agapito! I'm so excited to serve Koin under the title of PR. Anyone who knows me well knows that I enjoy using social media and that I love talking about my Christian Cooperative House. I'm so glad to have an excuse to do both of these things!

I will be a senior this fall majoring in Music Technology. I've lived in Koin all my college years, and I have served as Secretary, Philanthropic Operations Director, Social, Commissar, and Chaplain. Being one of the longest-tenured members of the house this year and serving through all these positions has helped me see things from so many different angles and has grown me as a Christian and a human being in general. There are so many ups to living in the Koin/Strat community, and it has become my 2nd home, as well as the thing I look forward to the most each school year!

When I'm not making music or serving the house, I like to talk and hang with friends, eat, sleep, play basketball, play frisbee, watch tv/movies (especially late at night), and play Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I can almost guarantee that if you find yourself in Koin at any given time, you can find me doing one of these things.

This particular year might present itself as a challenge for the Koin/Strat community. We usually plan our events and form our community with the intent of meeting in large groups and interacting closely with each other. But with the pandemic looming over us, we will be quite restricted in our interactions, both in quantity and quality. However, I've seen so many instances in the Bible in which God uses a bad or not ideal situation to bring about something amazing. I am confident that God will turn this minor inconvenience into something that blesses us. People will learn, friendships will grow, etc. I'm really excited to see how God works in us and in the community this semester!"

What are you really excited for this semester???

Meet Paxton Wiersema & Terence Lo (T-Lo), our May Koinonians of the Month and our graduating seniors!

• Paxton received his undergrad degree in mechanical engineering and his goal is to be a researcher possibly in the aerospace field of engineering. He is responsible, friendly, and always down to hang out. His favorite Koinonia meal is orange chicken and fried rice. He enjoys reading, outdoor activities, and cooking in his spare time. He also loves baseball, Lord of the Rings, and the color red. Paxton believes that deciding to live at Koinonia/Stratford is one of the best decisions you could make when coming to the University of Illinois.

• T-Lo received his undergrad degree in cello performance and crop sciences and wants to be a musician and professor. He is chill, funny, and as kind as he can to the people around him. His favorite Koinonia meal is Nosal Special. He enjoys reading, watching TV, and playing ping-pong in his spare time. He also loves his cello, his ducky towel, and his mom. T-Lo believes that Panda Express is trash Chinese food. “Fight me.”

• Paxton & T-Lo have served the house in many regards; most prominently Paxton has served as one of the commissars this past year, & T-Lo has served as both chaplain in previous semesters & as a Resident Assisstant (RA) this past year. It’s been demonstrated clearly through their services to the house, the friendships they have formed, & the way in which they have influenced & impacted those around them that they truly love Koinonia & the community we have. Words cannot express how much these 2 seniors have meant & do mean to us. Both of them are trustworthy, wise, & extremely caring. They have accepted Koinonia for the house that it is & the people that it holds, & we can’t ever thank them enough for all that they have done. Congratulations to our 2020 graduates, & we wish you the very best of luck as you move on to the next phase of your lives. Know that you are always welcome & loved at Koin. @ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
