Catholic Illini students: We invite you to join us on a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to attend the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on Thursday, September 24 in St. Louis, MO.

The Sheen Beatification Pilgrimage is a full day event package that includes transportation via charter bus; tickets to the Beatification Mass, Expo, and pre-Mass events (Adoration, Reconciliation, Worship, and more); lunch and dinner meals; and pilgrimage t-shirt.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was a beloved priest, bishop, and evangelist from the Diocese of Peoria famous for his radio and television program Life is Worth Living, which reached millions of Americans with the Gospel. His beatification to become Blessed Fulton Sheen is the first major step towards sainthood.

We invite you to join Fr. Brokaw, Fr. McShane, the entire SJCNC staff, and 150 fellow Catholic Illini as we celebrate one of our own whose faith and holiness grew from our local diocese.

Registration for the Beatification Pilgrimage is open now at https://bit.ly/CatholicIlliniSheenPilgrimage . Space is limited to reserve your spot now!

"This chapel was where _____"

"I encountered Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time"
"I became Catholic"
"We received the Sacrament of Marriage"
"I said yes to my vocation"

These are just some of the many incredible answers to the prompt and for one Catholic Illini alum, he shares, "this same Gospel was proclaimed at a pivotal point in my discernment of going to seminary."

Thirteen years ago when now-Fr. Joel Phelps arrived at the University of Illinois at St. John's Catholic Newman Center, the priesthood was a distant and distressing idea.

As the Lord softened his heart and moved him towards greater freedom and peace through prayer and friendships with other Catholic Illini men discerning the seminary, Phelps knew that there was nothing he wanted to hold back from the Lord.

When he celebrated the 12:05pm daily Mass for us today, he preached on the very words that helped him say yes to the Lord in this place.

One encounter with Christ and His Church has the capacity to transform not only one life, but a thousand souls and more! Now, Fr. Phelps serves as the pastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church- just ten minutes from where he first experienced the call to the priesthood.

We are in awe of how the Lord has continued to truly send out missionary disciples from our Catholic Illini community here at SJCNC! Countless (at least 70) Catholic Illini alumni have responded to the Lord's invitation to the priesthood and consecrated life. We are grateful for their yes and continue to pray for their faithfulness!

To join us in this mission here, we invite you to support us in prayer and other stewardship opportunities: https://sjcnc.org/give/ways-to-give
