Champaign Church of Christ

Champaign Church of Christ The best of us is still a mess, that's ok,it's not about us. It's about Jesus We believe in the Great Commission of Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20 ).

What We Believe

These are the basic convictions that the Champaign Church of Christ stands on:

1. We believe in God the Father, in Jesus the Son, both Savior and Lord, and in the Holy Spirit, who dwells in every Christian (Ephesians 2:22 ).

2. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and the standard for our lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ).

3. We believe that people are saved by the g

race of God through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8 ) when they believe, confess Jesus as Lord, repent of their sins, and are baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38 ). We are convinced that this is God’s plan for salvation and that there is no other way to be saved.

4. We believe the Scriptures teach that we are saved by grace, which should motivate us to live a life worthy of His calling, helping others do the same (2 Corinthians 5:14-20 ).

5. We believe that, while every individual Christian is called to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Bible teaches that we are all added to the body of Christ, the Church, and called to be integral parts in the local congregation (1 Corinthians 12:12-27 ).

6. We believe the church should always reflect God’s call to be a Light to the world as a multi-cultural, multi-racial, loving, one-another focused, Christ-centered family of believers (1 Corinthians 12:12-13 ). The Church should be committed to meeting the spritiual needs of its members (Ephesians 4:11-13), as well as serving the community (Matthew 25:40 ).

7. We are committed to helping others become true followers of Christ, not only in the local area, but around the world.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved church member, Giovanna Dibenedetto.

Giovanna was born on April 21, 1968, to Giovanni and Wilhelmina Dibenedetto. She grew up in Waverly, Iowa. and attended high school in Linn Grove, Iowa. Later in life she lived in Illinois, Washington, and Kansas before finally landing in Champaign, Illinois in 2013 with her daughter Rebekah.

Giovanna put down roots in central Illinois and became an active part of her community. She was involved with Courage Connections, an organization that helps women who had been abused, the Southeastern Urbana Neighborhood Association (SUNA) and was the Executive Director of Silver Hearts, Inc., an organization she founded aimed at reducing violence and food security for the residents of the Silverwood Community in Urbana. She helped with countless other endeavors and stood up for the down trodden and was an advocate for anyone in need.

Giovanna was also a beloved member of the Champaign Church of Christ, where she dedicated her time and energy to long-lasting relationships and faith in God. In all of these groups, Giovanna sought to create a better life for those in her community.

Giovanna also enjoyed creative pursuits. She was a gifted writer. In high school she won a district contest for expository poetry and she included her own poetry and short stories in Silver Hearts newsletter. She was also a great cook. When she first arrived in Champaign, she made large, intricate cakes for people at her church, made with various spices and decorations to bake something extraordinary. She also cooked great Italian food. She was a kind woman who cared deeply for the community and her family and friends.

Nowhere did she demonstrate this more than with her granddaughters. On January 10, 2020, Giovanna adopted her granddaughters Lily and Iva, and loved them and provided for them ever since. She was loved dearly by her friends and family, and will be missed greatly.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Lilly (13) and Iva (9) Dibenedetto, and her daughter, Rebekah Miller.

A memorial service will be held at the Champaign Church of Christ at 1509 W John St, Illinois, 61821 on November 2, 2025, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to a fund used to support the family during this time.

You can send contributions via the Champaign Church of Christ’s Tithely account. When donating, select the "In Memory of Giovanna - Family Support" as the fund. https://give.tithe.ly/?formId=cc50d47f-6865-11ee-90fc-1260ab546d11&context=modal
