Hi, we're the Boxers! We have been serving in the Centreville Stake's seminary program for the last 8 years - 6 years as teachers, and the last 2 years as seminary supervisors. We love working with all the seminary teachers and students each year, as we study the scriptures together. We are excited for our annual Stake Seminary Kickoff coming up on Sunday, August 9, from 7-8:15 at the stake center, where all the students and their parents can come meet their teachers and classes, organize carpools, and get excited for the new year! We can't wait to see you there!

Meet Lorelle Bewley, wife of President Bewley. We are so grateful to Lorelle for her dedication to Christ and her love for this stake.

I was born and raised in beautiful Cache Valley, Logan, Utah. I graduated from Utah State University with a BFA in Theatre Arts. After graduating, I served in the Japan, Tokyo-South mission. My three brothers had served in Central America, Argentina and Spain and I assumed I’d be sent to a Spanish speaking mission as well. I was surprised and scared when I got my call. It later made more sense as I remembered how my mom had joined the church as a teenager in Pasadena, California. She had been loved and fellowshipped into the gospel by her best friend and family who were second generation Japanese Americans. When I remembered those who had lovingly helped my mom find the gospel, I knew that I had been called to the right place.

After returning, Scott and I started dating and we married in 1996. We spent the early years of our marriage moving to and from several duty stations while Scott was serving in the Navy. We especially loved our tour in Yokosuka, Japan and then San Diego, California where Rebekah and Joshua joined our family. I love all the arts, traveling, animals, running, anything chocolate, and Harry Potter. I am currently serving in the Manassas Ward as a seminary teacher with my good friend Amy Shetter.

My current favorite scripture is the same as many in my seminary class: Helaman 5:12. “And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.” I love this scripture because of the word: “cannot.” It doesn’t read that: “…they may not fall.” It’s not: “they probably won’t fall.” It’s clearly stated that: “…they cannot fall.” It’s a universal truth that if we have built our foundation on Christ, then no matter what comes at us in life in terms of trials and temptations we cannot fall.

Meet Lisa Schilling, wife of President Schilling. She is an amazing woman standing side by side in Christlike discipleship with her husband. We are so grateful for your family's leadership and willingness to serve.

I was born 20 minutes after my twin sister in Ithaca, New York to two convert parents. When my father started his career, we moved to Massachusetts with a short 6-month stint in Arizona. I grew up in Woburn, Massachusetts and am one of ten children, 7 girls (including me) and 3 boys.

I graduated from Woburn High School . While in high school, I continued piano lessons, played soccer, basketball, and ran the two mile for the track team (lettering my freshman year!) I graduated from BYU with a degree in Spanish and minored in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). I did two studies abroad—one in Madrid, Spain and the other in Vienna, Austria. I worked for a year as an English as a Second Language (ESL) elementary school teacher in Provo before deciding to move to Austin, Texas to work for Dell. After 5 years with Dell, I decided to attend Penn State University for graduate school where I studied Education Theory and Policy. Upon starting my graduate studies at Penn State, I met Jim, and eight months later were sealed in the Boston Massachusetts Temple.

A little over a year after being married, we moved to Centreville, VA and I started work in education consultancy. After consulting for a few years, our oldest, Jack, was born and I stopped working outside of the home to concentrate on being a full-time mother. Jim and I went on to have four other children (Emma, Ben, Madsen and Piper).

A scripture I love is found in Mosiah 4:9. It states,

“ Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.”

This scripture teaches me a couple things about our Savior. First, we choose to believe that He lives and that He did the things it states in the scriptures. Second, and most importantly for me, is that we do not know all the things He knows or even understand things the way He understands them. This has helped to guide me in understanding the gospel to know that how we understand the world as humans is not always the way He thinks. It has guided me in making decisions in my life that do not always seem to make sense to the mortal mind. I am grateful for Him and that He has all wisdom and power. He is my anchor in a crazy and confusing world.

This multi-stake event was well attended, the food was delicious, and performances were wonderful.

Special acknowledgment to Kristyne Torruella and Alice Quan from our stake who put in many hours to make this event a success. Alice led the organization, finding the large screen, providing the food, and keeping the vision alive. In addition, we thank Marsha LaFroth and her husband, as well as President Carlson from Gainesville Stake, and Tim White of Brambleton Stake, who also helped organize the event. President Johnson ran the projector in the chapel. Other tech helpers along the way also helped, like Bruce Brown. President Briscoe Emceed the event on the day of. Brother Quan and their family, visitors from out of town, ran the kitchen and food that day. Brother Dzaran and Tim White got people to help with setting up and taking down. This is an incomplete list, we thank all those seen and unseen to who helped.

Ever wonder who the stake president's wife is? Here is a little about Alicia, the wife of the newly called President Briscoe. Make sure to read to the end for one of her favorite scriptures.

Alicia Briscoe was born and raised in Orem, Utah. Her childhood included lots of camping, hiking, falling out of trees, reading, garden weeding, and violin practice. She graduated from the Suzuki Violin Method in 1998, and from Timpanogos High School in 2002. Her studies continued at the U of U and UVU, and shortly after her marriage to Shaun in 2005, she earned a bachelor's degree in Legal Studies with an emphasis in research. She worked as a paralegal, first in family law and later in international business law, but her favorite job title is Mom, which she gained in 2011 (Luke) and renewed in 2016 (Ian) and 2018 (Eliza).

Her hobbies include reading, gardening, all kinds of music, and word games. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with Shaun and the kids. Her claim to fame is that she once spent a whole summer's worth of nights sleeping in a hammock underneath a pipe organ.

One of her favorite scriptures is found in John 13:34. "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." She likes this because when we lead with love, everything else ultimately falls into place and makes the time and effort we expend everywhere lighter and easier to bear.

President Schilling, welcome to the newly reorganized stake presidency! We are excited to learn from you. Thank you to your wife and children for supporting you in this new calling. We are grateful to the Schilling family for their dedicated service to Christ.

President Jim Schilling was born in Marrero, Louisiana, to two convert parents. Jim is the oldest and has three younger sisters. His family lived in a variety of places, including New Jersey, Georgia, and Virginia, until they settled in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School and continued his education at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. After his freshman year, he decided to serve a mission and served in the Fresno, California Mission, speaking Cambodian. Upon returning home from his mission, he continued his education at Franklin and Marshall College and Penn State University, where he received a joint degree in Physics and Nuclear Engineering. He stayed on at Penn State University for a master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering. It was during his grad program at Penn State that he met his wife, Lisa. Upon graduation in 2007, he and Lisa moved to Centreville, VA, where they have lived except for a brief 3-year period in Warsaw, Poland. They have five children, Jack (16), Emma (14), Ben (13), Madsen (11), and Piper (6).

President Schilling studied the oboe growing up and ultimately played in the Harrisburg Youth Symphony Orchestra in high school. He also loved cycling, competing in a couple of century rides, and participating on Franklin and Marshall's crew team his freshman year.

President Schilling loves brownies, stovetop-cooked popcorn, and warm Texas sheet cake. His favorite meal is either shrimp scampi or his dad’s delicious BBQ. Some of his favorite movies include The Hunt for Red October and Apollo 13. He likes fishing, lunches with Lisa, sitting down and relaxing with Lisa at the end of the day, or laughing with his kids. He has recently discovered a love for working outside in his yard when time permits. One of his favorite local places to visit with his family is the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

We welcome President Scott Bewley as the First Counselor in the newly reorganized Stake Presidency. Thank you, President Bewley, for your committed discipleship and willingness to serve, and to your wife, Lorelle, for her support in this new calling.

Scott Bewley grew up in NC. His parents were baptized into the church when he was 2. He graduated from NC State (Go Wolfpack!) with a BS in Chemistry and a commission in the United States Navy.

While serving 20 years of active duty as a Surface Warfare Officer, Scott loved sailing all the oceans in the world. He also graduated with a Master's Degree in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Upon retirement, he and his wife, Lorelle, and two children, Rebekah and Joshua, moved to the DC area, where he currently works as a program manager in the Office of Naval Research.

Scott loves all sports, but especially basketball. He enjoys mountain biking, camping, adventure, dogs, and talking with friends. He also loves the Lord and serving in whatever capacity he’s asked.

We are thrilled to get to know our new Stake President, Shaun Briscoe. We look forward to learning from under his Christlike guidance. Thank you to Alicia and their family for their support of his role in leading the stake.

President Shaun Briscoe was born and raised in Orem, Utah, and had never traveled much further until he boarded a plane to Belem, Brazil, where he served as a missionary from 2003 to 2005.

After his mission, he met and married Alicia and earned a bachelor's degree in Information Systems from BYU in 2011. He was offered a position with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the DC area after graduation, and they quickly fell head over heels for Virginia. In 2017, he earned a master's degree in Information Technology from Virginia Tech. He has previously served as a Young Men's leader, an Elder's Quorum President, and a Bishop.

Shaun and Alicia have three children, Luke (14), Ian (10), and Eliza (7). When Shaun has a free Saturday, you will find him making extra-fluffy pancakes for breakfast or grilling homemade hamburgers for dinner. He loves family movie nights, music, good food, building LEGO sets, board games, and being home with his family.
