You may not remember the NASA Apollo 13 mission. Perhaps you watched the movie or heard the story. Faith was required when an oxygen tank was damaged, and the mission was scrubbed. The three astronauts had to rely on the lunar module that was supposed to take them to the moon to get them back to Earth. The module was designed to support two men for two days. They needed it to support three men for four days. As the men prepared for re-entry to the Earth’s atmosphere, Jim Lovell tells his fellow crew members, “Gentlemen, it has been a privilege flying with you.” At that point, their future was completely 100% out of their personal, individual control. And they made it!

“Jesus invites his followers…to give up the illusion that we have control over what happens to us and then entrust our life to the only one who is actually stronger than the storms we face.” – Randy Frazee

Sunday’s message is “Emptied”. We are never in control. It is just an illusion.

I know this is the most unique Christmas in my lifetime. May the celebration of Jesus' birth, God piercing the dark world by meeting us in the messes of life as the Word made flesh, be the most meaningful and memorable of your lifetime. Brian and I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and New Year! Thank you for all of your kindness and prayers during this season! I am looking forward to taking time away Dec. 27-Jan. 2. Remember that Sunday's service (Dec. 27th) will be pre-recorded and available online. Rev. Debra Dailey will be available during my vacation for urgent pastoral care at 1-570-541-9074.

With hands to the plow,

Pastor Theresa
