Great job to our youth for their volunteer efforts tonight at Mary’s Helping Hands, and a huge thanks to our congregation for the donations we brought with us for this amazing non-profit to share with new moms and their little ones in the DSM community. ❤️✝️❤️

And so it begins. Lent, a time to empty ourselves of all that is not of Christ, a time to be full of his grace and truth.

O Holy God whose nature and name is Love:
Seeing there is in Christ Jesus an infinite fullness
of all that we can want or wish
O that we may all receive of his fullness,
grace upon grace;
Grace to pardon our sins and subdue our iniquities;
Grace to justify our persons and to sanctify our souls;
Grace to complete that holy change,
that renewal of our hearts,
whereby we may be transformed
into that blessed image wherein you did create us;
O make us all meet to be partakers of
the inheritance of thy saints in light
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen. ~ John Wesley (Collection of Forms of Prayer)

They shall call his name Emmanuel - To be called, only means, according to the Hebrew manner of speaking, that the person spoken of shall really and effectually be what he is called, and actually fulfil that title. Thus, Unto us a child is born - and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Prince of Peace - That is, he shall be all these, though not so much nominally, as really, and in effect. And thus was he called Emmanuel; which was no common name of Christ, but points out his nature and office; as he is God incarnate, and dwells by his Spirit in the hearts of his people. It is observable, the words in Isaiah are, Thou (namely, his mother) shalt call; but here, They - that is, all his people, shall call - shall acknowledge him to be Emmanuel, God with us. Which being interpreted - This is a clear proof that St. Matthew wrote his Gospel in Greek, and not in Hebrew. Isaiah 7:14. ~ John Wesley’s Notes on the New Testament, Matthew 1:23
