This past Sunday, June 7, we were blessed to have His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak join us in celebrating the Holy Liturgy. It was a special occasion, as he ordained Sub-Deacon Malek Askar to the rank of Full Deacon (Ewangalyono). His Eminence was assisted by our own V. Rev. Fr. Maroutha Hanna, as well as V. Rev. Fr. Anton Sabha (St. Matthew’s of West Roxbury) and Rev. Fr. Toni Kasih (St. Mary’s of Shrewsbury).
Following the ordination services, Shamosho Malek addressed the congregation with a spiritual message. He first explained the meaning of his new ranking as Ewangalyono (which translates to "good news”), then reminded us that serving God is a special calling. Shamosho added that God guides us for His purpose — and that true service requires humility, prayer and trust in Him. Through this important message, the newly ordained encouraged us all to listen for God's call and answer it with faith and commitment.
On behalf St. Ephraim’s parish, we’d like to congratulate Shamosho Malek Askar and his family on this wonderful and inspiring occasion. As His Eminence mentioned on Sunday, events like this revitalizes the church and motivates us to continue moving forward together.
Thank you to His Eminence for joining us this week and offering his blessings. We’d also like to thank Dayroyo Maroutha, Abouna Anton, Abouna Toni and all of the deacons for their services. And a special thank-you to our volunteers for preparing and serving a fellowship lunch after the mass.
We look forward to more happy and prosperous occasions.
