“It may not be a sin—but is it wise?”

Proverbs 14:15
“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”

Sometimes we ask, “What’s wrong with it?” or “Is it actually a sin?”

But wisdom teaches us to ask a better question: “Where is this going to take me?”

There may not be a verse that specifically forbids every movie we watch, every friendship we develop, every purchase we make, or every place we go. But that doesn’t mean every choice is wise.

For example, a teenager might say, “I’m not doing anything wrong. I’m just hanging out with them.” Maybe so. But wisdom looks beyond tonight and asks, “What influence are these friendships having on the person I’m becoming?”

That’s a question for parents too. Sometimes we’re so concerned with whether we can do something that we never stop to consider whether we should.

That’s what we’re learning together in The Wisdom Project—how to take the wisdom of Proverbs and apply it to the real decisions our families face every day.

Our children are using their Wisdom Project notebooks for lesson notes, Scripture memory, SOAP Bible study, practical challenges, family discussion, and recording what God is teaching them.

Our goal isn’t simply to teach our children what is right and wrong. We want to help them develop the biblical wisdom to make good decisions when there isn’t a rule telling them exactly what to do.

So maybe there’s one more question worth adding to our family’s vocabulary:

“It may not be a sin—but is it wise?”

Proverbs 8:1–3
“Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.”

Solomon pictures wisdom calling out in the places where everyday life happens—along the road, at the intersections, and at the city gates.

In other words, God’s wisdom isn’t just for church. We need it wherever life requires a decision.

When you’re about to send that angry text—wisdom has something to say.

When your child is deciding whether to follow the crowd—wisdom has something to say.

When we’re deciding what to buy, what to watch, who to trust, or how to respond when someone hurts us—wisdom has something to say.

The problem usually isn’t that wisdom is silent. Sometimes we’re simply moving too fast to listen.

That’s what The Wisdom Project is about: helping children, teens, and adults learn God’s wisdom from Proverbs and then recognize where it belongs in everyday life.

Our children are using their Wisdom Project notebooks for lesson notes, Scripture memory, SOAP Bible study, practical challenges, family discussion, and recording what God is teaching them.

Our goal isn’t simply to know what Proverbs says. We want families who learn to hear wisdom’s voice—and choose God’s way when real life happens.

Everybody wants to be liked, but sometimes we forget that being likable starts with how we treat others.

Proverbs 18:24
“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly…”

We can choose to smile, encourage, show gratitude, and treat people in a way that makes their day better.

Think about it at home. When you walk through the door, does your family brace themselves for your mood—or are they glad you’re home? 😄 Our attitude, words, and even our facial expressions affect the people around us.

That’s worth teaching our children—and practicing ourselves. We don’t have to chase popularity, but we should strive to be the kind of people others enjoy being around because they see kindness, joy, and Christlike character in us.

That’s what we’re working toward in The Wisdom Project: families learning together how God’s wisdom applies to real life—our attitudes, friendships, conversations, decisions, and relationships.

Our goal is more than learning Proverbs. We want God’s wisdom to change the way our families live.

🎉 TODAY IS THE DAY! THE WISDOM PROJECT BEGINS TONIGHT!

September 2!

Proverbs 4:13
“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”

Starting something is exciting. Sticking with it is where discipline comes in.

Think about January at the gym. It’s packed! Everybody has new goals, new shoes, and new determination. Give it a few weeks and suddenly there’s plenty of parking. 😄

Why? Because enthusiasm can get us started, but commitment keeps us going.

The same is true spiritually.

Tonight we’re beginning The Wisdom Project, but our goal isn’t simply to have a great first night. We want to develop a habit of seeking God’s wisdom week after week and day after day.

That’s why Proverbs says, “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go.”

We want our children to learn that following God’s wisdom requires commitment. We want parents and grandparents modeling that same commitment. And we want families opening God’s Word together and talking about how its truth applies to school, work, friendships, money, relationships, temptations, decisions, and everyday life.

📒 Our children will receive their Wisdom Project notebooks tonight. They’ll use them throughout our study for lesson notes, Scripture memory, SOAP Bible study, practical application, and recording what God is teaching them as they work through Proverbs.

But here’s the bigger goal:

We’re not trying to fill notebooks. We’re trying to build lives.

Lives that know God’s Word.
Lives that recognize wisdom and foolishness.
Lives that fear the Lord.
Lives that have the discipline to choose what is right—even when it isn’t easy.

So let’s start strong tonight—and then take fast hold of instruction and refuse to let it go.

“The fear of the Lord isn’t just where wisdom begins—it’s the system by which the wise live.”

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” — Proverbs 1:7

Many people think the fear of the Lord is simply being afraid of God or merely respecting Him. But Proverbs paints a much bigger picture.

The fear of the Lord is seeing life through God’s perspective. It becomes the “operating system” for every decision we make. It shapes how we speak, how we treat our family, how we handle money, how we respond to criticism, and how we face temptation. Wisdom isn’t just knowing the right answer—it’s living each day with the awareness that God is holy, God is present, and God’s way is always best.

Think of a compass. If it’s even one degree off, you may not notice at first. But over time, you’ll end up miles from where you intended to be. The fear of the Lord is our true north. When our hearts are rightly oriented toward God, He guides every step in the right direction.

That’s why we’re excited about The Wisdom Project! Beginning Wednesday, September 2, we’ll walk through the book of Proverbs together as families, discovering how God’s wisdom speaks to everyday life. Children will receive their own interactive notebooks filled with Scripture journaling, activities, memory verses, and practical applications to help them grow in wisdom all week long.
