With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Benjamin Frisch-a talented young man who blessed our church through his gift of music. He played the organ for us a couple of times and his talent, kindness, and willingness to serve left a lasting impression on our congregation.
We invite you to read the moving tribute written by Bob Holt, President of Schoharie Valley Singers, which so thoughtfully captures the spirit of this remarkable young man. Please keep his family, friends, and all who loved him in your prayers during this time of sorrow.
May he rest in peace.a
Notice of the Passing of Benjamin Frisch
It is with profound sorrow that we share the tragic passing of Benjamin Frisch, a cherished member of the Schoharie Valley Singers, who died on January 11, 2026, as the result of a skiing accident. His death comes as a deep shock to our choir and to all who knew and loved him.
Ben was a gifted young man with a genuine love for music. He was especially devoted to singing and was a self-taught organist. Many first came to know Ben through his faithful service at Beards Hollow Church, where he began playing the historic pump organ each August. From there, he went on to serve several local congregations as an organist and pianist. His musical talent, warm smile, and gentle spirit enriched our choir and our community.
Beyond his musical gifts, Ben was on a meaningful journey of faith. Just prior to his passing, he was certified in his church as a Lay Minister, affirming his call to proclaim the Word of God. Those who knew Ben admired the depth of his faith, his humility, and his desire to serve Christ and others.
Because of Ben’s love for Jesus, we are reminded of the hope he truly believed, as proclaimed in the Gospel according to St. John the 11th chapter (25–26):
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”
As people of faith, we commend Ben to God’s eternal care, trusting in the promise of the resurrection. We believe that he now joins the heavenly choir, lifting his voice in praise. May God grant rest to Ben’s gentle soul, and may he rise in glory.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all of Ben’s loved ones.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lawyersville Reformed Church, 109 Phillip Schuyler Road (Route 10, North Grand Street, from Cobleskill).
The Schoharie Valley Singers have been invited to assist with the Sending Hymn, “Be Still, My Soul,” a favorite of Ben’s.
Arrangements are entrusted with the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley where Ben's obituary may be found: https://www.ottmanfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Benjamin-Frisch?obId=46950231
With prayerful sympathy,
