A Word from Pastor:

America was birthed in the space between two nationwide revivals, the First Great Awakening in the 18th Century and the 2nd Great Awakening in the 19th Century. The primary evangelist-revivalist of the former was George Whitefield. Before the days of mass communication people would travel many miles to hear him preach -- to more than half the colonial population in person. He had more to do with establishing the worldview and culture of the colonies, based on Bible-based Christianity, than any other person or movement. The most prominent missionary-evangelist of the latter was Charles Finney, who worked the frontiers of the expanding nation. These were also the most formative influencers in moving the nation to abandon slavery. Both leveled all mankind before a holy God. Finney called slavery a "great national sin" and refused Communion to slaveholders.

Now our culture is dominated by people who murder and mutilate and recruit children, parade their perversions, and are hateful and violent toward those who don't approve their abominations. There are no counterforce leaders or spokesmen today who remotely compare to the influence of revivalists of the past. Charles Finney said: "Revival is renewed conviction of sin and repentance, followed by an intense desire to live in obedience to God. It is giving up one's will in deep humility."

God said: "If my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways. then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

A Word from Pastor:

I recently attended two local pastors' meetings on the same day. The first was a diverse group of evangelical ministers and the second was of my denomination. The former was a rather high-spirited group, discussing topics like evangelism and missions, hot worldview and social issues. The latter discussed issues of who could do what and where, and who shouldn't, such as laymen and women, pastors and institutions not certified by the LCMS, doing things like preaching, educating, reading from the lectern, blessing and distributing the sacraments.

Certainly there is a place for seeing that things be done within the church decently and in order without giving offense, but also for making sure things get done at all, especially if they are hot topics national and worldwide of a moral and spiritual nature.

What do you suppose Jesus would do and say?

A Word from Pastor:

For two decades part of my calling and privilege was to coach high school basketball teams that competed at the highest level nationwide. Student athletes came to Our Savior New American School in Long Island from many places in the U.S. and world (Europe, Africa, South America). I still can watch on TV or hear about some players who played for or against us from the years 2000 - 2019.

I'm not much for social media, but I do occasionally hear from/about some of them. I recently received a phone call from a former student athlete who came to us from NYC. He said: "Pastor, you gave us such a great opportunity to play on a great team at the highest level throughout the U.S., but the most important thing you taught me was that basketball isn't the important thing, Jesus Christ is."

Why People Stopped Having Children

From the Washington Post:

“Historically, houses of worship have been a way for like-minded young people to partner up. Religious communities set expectations around the importance of marriage and building a family.

“The catch is that even religiously conservative societies cannot fully escape the forces of secularization and modernization. People — and particularly women — in what were once ‘traditional’ societies reconfigured their needs and priorities. The cultural power of the West helped set new standards around educational attainment and female entry into the workplace. Early marriage was no longer the default. Much of this was good, but good things come at a cost. One novel study of genealogy trees concludes that secularization, through the spread of enlightenment values and the waning influence of the Catholic Church, accounts for France’s early fall in fertility rates dating to the 1760s, a century before the rest of Europe.”

Warned Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, “Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened.”


The saddest women in the Bible were those who were barren, e.g. Sarah, Rachel, Hannah, and the mothers who lost theirs, e.g., the widow of Zarephath, the Shunamite, Mary. The former three had their tearful prayers answered, the latter their sons raised from the dead.

A Word from Pastor:

A life is a life, no matter how small.

Seventy-three million people have been killed in one year and will be killed again this year, if not more — when they are completely innocent humans.

They never get to see the light of day before they are cast away. They did nothing wrong except exist and were dismissed. People say women and healthcare but never think how unfair—they kill a baby for simply being there!

The Word of God says, ”You knit me together in my mother’s womb.’ How come we never listen to this and try to send them to a tomb?
I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. His works are wonderful. A person is a person, no matter how small.

A life is a life—no matter how small.

We often forget this important detail. This detail could save a life. Sixty percent of babies who weren’t intended have died because of this.
Why do people kill these innocent babies with the pill? Why do people say babies in the womb are a mistake-a thing that needs to be gotten rid of? Why, why, why?

When you ask someone is murder bad, they say yes, of course. But how come when you say murdering innocent babies is bad, they shame you?

They say women’s rights and healthcare but what about the baby’s rights? That’s what’s unfair. From the moment they are created, they are a human person. They are created in God’s image.

People say women’s rights and healthcare. They say it’s just a clump of cells. But no one dwells on the fact that the baby still has a heartbeat at six weeks. Boom boom, boom boom.

Nothing compares to the love a mother has for her baby. So just maybe we let them have a chance to live and that love will grow.
Destruction, dismay, dread. When will people comprehend that this needs to come to an end?

A Word from Pastor:

Another glaring rejection of God and departure from God's Word in America is the majority opinion that all or most people will go to heaven (if there is such a place) and there are many roads to get there, whether it be by religions other than Bible-based, Christ-centered Christianity or by living a relatively good life by generally accepted human standards (because God is love, i.e., tolerant).

Jesus clearly and emphatically taught: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) And again: "The gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." (Matthew 7:13)

A Word from Pastor:

Your worldview is how you see, evaluate, interpret whatever is going on in the world. The sizeable majority of Americans do not have a worldview consistent with how God sees things. Either they believe God does not exist, or that He hasn't spoken, or the Bible is a flawed indicator of God's view or truth, or that their own opinions and/or feelings are more important than God's anyway. That is, they are their own gods.

This is glaringly evident by views on two egregious rejections of God's Word: abortion and LGBTQ+. 60% of Americans believe murdering preborn human beings should be legal in all or most cases. Only 11% believe abortion should be illegal period. That is an extreme departure from the Bible and our nation's foundational documents which state "that all are created equal with the right to life." And nearly two out of three believe same-sexual relations/marriage is morally acceptable. There has been some slippage in high percentages of acceptance of homosexualism and transgenderism, especially for extreme expressions like mutilating children or allowing biological men into female spaces, but we are still far from what God and His Word has to say.

Ultimately only God's opinion will determine what an individual or a nation deserve and will get in time and eternity. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:11) "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons and daughters of God." (Romans 8:14)

A Word from Pastor:

Sinful man, knowingly or unknowingly governed by Satan, has been on a quest to kill and bury God -- to erase God from thought and life. When God came to earth, He was rejected, crucified, buried. A heavy boulder was placed over God's tomb and a human guard was placed in front of it, so no one would attempt to steal the co**se and claim God was alive.

But the stone was moved, the guards were overwhelmed, and the co**se was/is missing. Still is. God Himself moved the stone, not so He could get out, but so we could look in, and see the tomb is empty. "Behold, two men in dazzling apparel said to them, 'Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but He is risen. Remember what He told you' . . ." (Luke 24:4-6) Jesus had said: "I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father." (John 10:17-18)

God lives. He's not going anywhere. And He's coming. Get used to it. Deal with it. Before you can't.

A Word from Pastor:

The favorite Bible verse of sinful man -- the one verse he knows by heart -- and frequently quotes -- is "Judge not." (Matthew 7:1) It is usually paraphrased, "Don't judge me!" Or: "How I live or act is my business, not yours." It is a saying used to justify any godless attitude or activity -- to claim freedom and personal sovereignty, like "Don't tell me what to do -- or can't do -- with my body." As Satan tempted Eve: "You will be like God, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:5)

Indeed, we are not to judge. That's God's prerogative. But when God has judged and made His judgment known, who are we to stand in judgment over Him? God has spoken in His Word. We will either let Him be the Judge -- of what is true and false, right and wrong -- or we will presume to judge Him. However, He will ultimately judge us -- with eternal consequences.

"He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20)
