On wintery days such as these, please use your discretion and be honest. Pastor Boyd will still be available to lead Divine Service, as it is his intention to never cancel worship.

If you are truly able to attend, but may feel compelled to stay at home, let your desire to receive the Word and Sacrament of our Lord be stronger. Be not afraid and please receive the gifts of the Lord.

If you are truly unable to attend, but may feel compelled to come, maybe on account of fearing God's displeasure, let it be known that God is gracious and merciful: it is not a sin to stay at home when God has blessed you with so much snow and ice that traveling becomes impossible. Instead, as you remember to keep the Sabbath day holy, please sing a hymn, pray for the Church and all those according to their needs, and read the psalms, Old Testament, Epistle, and Gospel of our Lord.

May the Lord your God bless you. Amen.

Almighty God, heavenly Father, we thank and praise You that You called John Van Gerpen to the knowledge of Your dear Son, kept him in the true faith, and granted him a blessed end. We implore You, help us by Your Holy Spirit rightly to know and lament our sins and to be so strengthened in our faith in Christ that in all things we may grow into Him who is our Head, evermore praising You in newness of life and cheerfully awaiting the glorious appearance of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

John Van Gerpen's Funeral is to be held next Monday, the 17th, at 11am. Followed by lunch.

A Prayer for Thanksgiving on Memorial Day:

Almighty God, You are our strength and our shield. We give You thanks for the honorable men and women of our armed forces, past and present, and especially for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. May their sacrifices serve the cause of peace, and may our nation be ever grateful for their service. In Your wisdom, guide our military's leaders, and give to all people a desire for peace, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Memorial Day.

Who are you remembering today?
