"For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.” Proverbs 9:11

Our Days Are in God’s Hands
We make the most of life by applying our hearts to wisdom. That is a deliberate choice to make. This is something we do with diligence. It is not a haphazard thing. Wisdom is Christ-embodied. The Bible says of Christ, “In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3). You cannot have wisdom without the Lord.

The Bible says in Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing.” The Bible also tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”(Proverbs 9:10). God has a purpose for our lives. The purpose is that we apply our hearts to wisdom.

The amazing truth of this is that as we live our days to the fullest, applying our hearts to wisdom on a daily basis, we are making the greatest investment in eternity. In addition, you will be the best husband, the best wife, the most Christ-honoring child, the best friend, and the most productive worker. An all-wise God has designed life so that if the purpose that He has for us is lived out, it is not only most glorifying to God, it is the best for us. This is why the proper stewardship of our time is essential.

Most people think this means we ought to give the Lord a certain time during the day. There is no doubt this is helpful and true. Some people think we should tithe the time in the day, that ten percent belongs to the Lord. There should be time for God and God alone; but as we go about our daily business, we keep the Lord in the forefront of our mind all the day. He is ever before me. All of our life, meaning all of our time, belongs to Him.

The Lord has all my days; they are in His hands. The issues of death are in His hands just as the issues of life are in His hands, as the Bible teaches in Psalm 68:20. The purpose God has for my life is to live my life and number my days to make the most of each day by applying my heart to wisdom.

Stewardship Begins With God
Stewardship declares our absolute dependence upon the God who will freely give us all things. The Word of God says in Romans 8:32, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”

Will God really provide?

God says, “How could you ever doubt that I would provide what you need when I have already given you my Son?”

Do you not understand this marvelous grace of God? If He did not spare His only begotten Son, surely He will freely give us all things.

Stewardship is meant to be a declaration of our dependence upon the Lord. We could not make it without Him. This is what stewardship is all about. It does not begin with money. When we give money, we are saying that we would not have any money if God had not provided the health, strength, and mind to gain that wealth. We are declaring as we give, “Thank You, Lord. You own it all. It all belongs to You, and I give to declare my dependence upon You and my gratitude to You.” Our giving expresses gratitude.

Stewardship is not just cramming a box of offering envelopes in somebody’s face and saying, “Use them!” Stewardship is not trying to get a tenth from everybody by encouraging them to pay the tithe. Stewardship, like prayer, salvation, and everything else, begins with God. It all begins with God. If you start any godly thing with any source other than God, you start in the wrong place. If you want to end any so-called godly thing anywhere but God, you are ending in the wrong place. He is the Alpha and Omega; He is the beginning and the end.

We give because God has given. Our giving is to glorify God who has given us His only begotten Son.

We Have All Spiritual Blessings
Spiritual blessings are difficult to recognize when we live weak, anemic Christian lives. We must ask the Lord to open our understanding. The Word of God says in II Peter 1:3, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”
Dear Dr. Frank Sells, who is now in heaven, used a little decorated box to illustrate this point. Inside, he had certain words on papers tied to strings. As he pulled out each word, he read the word aloud and asked the audience, “Would you like to have peace? Would you like to have joy? Would you like to have hope?”

He would call out each word as he dropped it over the side of the box. After he had them all out, he would say, “You cannot get these things one at a time.” One by one, he put them all back, closed the lid, and turned his box around. Written on the outside for all eyes to see was the name “Christ.” He told us, “When you get Christ, then you get all of these.”

The Bible says in Ephesians 1:1-3,

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

When I received the Lord Jesus, He gave me all spiritual blessings. I hope you will continue to search the Scripture to discover all you have in Jesus Christ. Every good thing we enjoy is all because we have Him!

Christ Is the Propitiation for Our Sins
Propitiation is God’s perfect solution for our sin problem. The Bible says in I John 4:10, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Man’s sin has incurred God’s wrath. What can we do to turn away God’s wrath? Absolutely nothing. God sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Christ incurred God’s wrath for us. God struck His own Son for our sins.
The Bible says in I John 2:1-2, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
The goal is to not sin, but when we do sin, the Bible says, “We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” He goes to the Father on our behalf.
On what ground can He turn God’s consuming wrath away from us? He bore the entire blow of God’s wrath on Himself. When we sin, we can go to God and thank Him that Christ is our propitiation. The penalty of only one of our sins would be enough to send us to hell forever, but our Lord Jesus paid for all our sin.

We Are a Chosen Generation, an Holy Nation, and a Peculiar People
In addition to our royal priesthood, I Peter 2:9 reveals that we are part of three things that refer to the same idea: “a chosen generation,” “an holy nation,” and “a peculiar people.”
Our “chosen generation” has been born of God. This is not a generation locked in time. All people who have been born into God’s family are a part of this chosen generation.

Our “holy nation” is set apart and different. We associate particular countries with certain nationalities, but the Bible says that there is a holy nation made up of all peoples. God has a group of people who do not identify simply with one ethnicity; they are set apart as God’s holy nation.

In God’s Word, the expression, “peculiar people,” is not referring to the way we look or behave. This expression reveals that we do not belong to this world. We are in the world, but not of the world. We belong to the Lord.

We need to take the time to teach our children when they trust the Lord Jesus as their Saviour that the goals and ambitions of this world are not to be our goals and ambitions. We are part of God’s holy nation, and we ought to seek first the kingdom of God. How thrilling that God identifies us as His own!

We Are Part of God’s Eternal Plan
According to I Peter 1:2, every believer is “elect according to the foreknowledge of God.” Before the world was created, God knew all things. God knew every person that would receive Him as Saviour. Our names are written in heaven. Remember, God does not have thoughts as men have thoughts. The eternal God has no beginning and has never been taken by surprise. He has all knowledge.

If a man is truly lost and under condemnation, it is all because of that man. If a man is truly saved, it is all because Christ tasted death for every man. If God knows you as one who has believed on Him, trusted in Him, and received Him as your Saviour, then you are a part of God’s eternal plan. In the foreknowledge of God, He knew that you would trust Him as your Saviour.

These things that accompany salvation help us to understand how far-reaching and vast this wonderful gift of salvation truly is. I do not blame God for men being lost, and I do not give credit to men for man being saved. We must do all we can to get the gospel message to every man, but we do not do the saving. If a man is truly saved, “Salvation is of the LORD” (Jonah 2:9).

We Are Complete in Christ
Let us compare the Christian life to a voyage. The Bible says in Colossians 2:8-10,
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

Notice this expression in the tenth verse, “And ye are complete in him.” In other words, in Christ you have everything on board that you could ever need to complete life’s journey.

The world likes to say, “We need people who are balanced.” I have tried to break myself of saying that word. I do not want to be balanced. I want to be complete in Jesus Christ! I want to yield every need to Him and allow Him to work in my life. He is all-sufficient.

We Have a Royal Priesthood
The precious blood of the Lamb of God, slain from the foundation of the world gives us a royal priesthood so that we might enter in and speak with God. In Exodus 19:5-6, God gave this message to Moses for the children of Israel,

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.
The priesthood was first offered to Israel, but they failed to obey God. In I Peter 2:9, God’s Word says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood.” The Lord Jesus Christ is our High Priest! He ever liveth to make intercession for us! The Bible says in Revelation 1:5-6,
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Can you recall a time when you sincerely shut the world out and shut yourself in with God? When we are facing great needs, let us not wander around in the outer court! We must go into the Holy of Holies, speak with God, and earnestly ask God to meet our needs!

We Have Much More of God’s Care
Once we are born into God’s family, we are awakened to the wonderful love of God, and we discover much more of God’s care. Read Romans 5:8-10 carefully, and note the repetition of the words “much more.”
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

God loves the lost, hell-deserving sinner! God loves His enemies. God loved Pilate as much as He loved Peter. Sadly, this world knows little or nothing of this love. I was introduced to God’s great love by a soul winner. He said, “God loves you,” and then showed me how I could trust the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour. Since that day, I have come to know personally many of the wonderful things that accompany salvation.

If you have been born into God’s family, there is so much more for you! “We love him, because he first loved us” (I John 4:19)! The more we discover of His “much more” care of our lives, the more devoted and consecrated we are going to be to Him.

We Are Translated Into the Kingdom of His Dear Son
In Colossians 1:13, the Word of God says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” We do not have to wait to get into God’s kingdom.
We have been removed from the power of darkness and put into the kingdom of God. When Christ comes again, He will come for all those who are His children. Are you ready for Christ’s return? The Word of God says in I Thessalonians 4:16-17,
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

I am as sure of heaven as if I were standing on a street of gold because God has translated me into the kingdom of His dear Son. Do not belittle the Christian life. We have so great salvation! We do not have to work for God’s acceptance. God sees us clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ!
