Sunday Sermon’s recap:
Navigating Anxiety with God: Perfectionism and Anxiety
Striving to do your best isn’t a bad thing — in fact, giving our best effort can be a form of worship. But when our desire to do things perfectly consumes us with worry, anxiousness, and fear, it becomes unhealthy.
Like Martha in Luke 10:38-42, we can become so preoccupied with getting everything “just right” that we miss what truly matters — being present with Jesus. Martha’s heart was in the right place; she wanted to serve well. But her anxious striving distracted her from the peace Jesus was offering.
Perfectionism can leave us feeling overwhelmed, burned out, and trapped in a cycle of never feeling “good enough.” It’s exhausting to carry the weight of trying to do everything in our own strength.
Jesus reminds us that no one is perfect — only God. As Romans 3:10 says, "There is none righteous, no, not one." But through Jesus, we are forgiven, loved, and made whole.
Let go of the pressure to be perfect. Trust Jesus to fill in the gaps where your strength falls short. His grace is enough.
Reflection: Are you striving to meet impossible standards? Today, choose to sit with Jesus instead of striving for perfection.
Perfectionism creates pressure; Jesus offers peace.
