1915 photograph taken of Advent Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, WI on the right. Advent was given the land for the church by Gustav Boerner as long as they built a structure worth at least $5000. You can read that it was referred to as the English Lutheran Church as they were the first Lutheran church in Cedarburg to give services in English. You can also see the McKay Building including their original pediment and tall flag pole with a large American flag.

Easter is not a denial of crucifixion’s horror, nor a naïve claim that suffering is gone. It is the unveiling of God’s solidarity within it. When despair feels near, and the machinery of death still grinds on, Easter calls us to turn: from fear to courage, from silence to witness, from resignation to radiant hope.

“For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well” (Psalm 139:13-14).

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility — a time dedicated to celebrating the lives, gifts and contributions of transgender people, while also recognizing their ongoing struggle for safety, dignity and justice.

In the ELCA social statement Faith, Sexism and Justice: A Call to Action, we affirm our belief that “God’s intention revealed through the Scriptures is that all people have life abundantly and flourish”(page 2). Today reminds us of our call to love, affirm and support one another — not just today, but every day as an expression of our faith.

In 2026, more than 700 anti-trans bills have been introduced across the country. The proposed legislation attempts to block transgender people from receiving basic rights such as health care, education, legal recognition and even the simple right to exist openly. Such laws cause harm to our transgender siblings.

In our congregational life, harm can take shape through patterns of teaching, language and policy, as well as through silences that quietly communicate rejection — even when no harm is intended.

At times like these, we are reminded that we are one body in Christ — if one part suffers, we all suffer.

As people of faith, we are called to:
**Pray with and for our beloved transgender siblings that all might be able to live life abundant.
**Advocate for policies that protect human dignity and oppose discrimination.
**Act by learning, showing up and standing in solidarity.

May we continue to live out our faith through love, justice and accompaniment.

In Christ,
The Rev. Yehiel Curry
Presiding Bishop, ELCA

Palm Sunday invites us to ask: which procession do we join? Do our lives mirror the pageantry of empire, built on domination and economic exploitation, or do they embody Jesus’ way of humble courage and prophetic disruption? Today we are invited into the practice of , first as we hear the story of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem in worship, and then in the afternoon at 2pm as we march in solidarity with Christians around the nation, together marking a path towards hope.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Advent for the final midweek Lenten dinner and worship last night. What a joy to share in food and fellowship with our neighboring church partners, and then sing Holden Evening Prayer together. Our focus on "Celebration" as a spiritual practice was spot on for the night. And what an added gift it was to have Bishop Paul Erickson worship with us! The confirmation youth even got to have done with him separately. All-in-all, a wonderful evening.

Holy Week blessings as we near Palm Sunday and the march to the Cross.

The fifth week in Lent prepares us for the tension of Holy Week, when Jesus’ refusal to bow to empire (in Mark 12:13-17) will lead to his arrest and ex*****on. Here, he reminds us that faithful resistance does not always look like open revolt, but neither does it submit blindly.
