"One Minute Meditation" for Monday, June 1

READ
Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

Like a toddler who finds comfort as her parent holds her hand as they make their way through a crowded store, so we, the children of the Heavenly Father, find comfort in knowing He is with us in this world crowded with conflict and confusion, pains and problems, trials and troubles. How important it is for us to remember that the God who created the entire universe by the power of His Word, holds us in the palm of His hand. This is the Lord who assumed our guilt and crucified it on the cross. This is the One who conquered death and grave. This is the God who is with us always.

REFLECT
How does this promise of the Lord give you peace in your daily life?

RESPOND
Prayer: Almighty God, You are the Creator of the universe and You are my powerful God and my loving heavenly Father. I thank You for Your presence in my life. I pray in the name of Your Son, my Savior, Jesus. Amen.

By Way of Introduction To June's "One Minute Meditation"

There are a lot of promises made these days. Watch television for a couple of hours and you will be inundated with promises. Get online and find yourself bombarded by promises. Turn on the radio and experience an overload of promises. There’s the cleaner that promises you don’t have to scrub your shower doors—just spray and walkaway. Or how about the chair aerobics that promise you will lose 20 pounds in one month. My favorite was the shoe company that advertised weight loss just by walking in their shoes. The only thing lost was millions of dollars when the company was sued for false advertising.

Can we really trust promises? We can if they come from the Word of the Lord. Our Lord not only makes promises, He also keeps them. He alone has the power and the presence to make amazing promises and also fulfill them.

This month’s “One Minute Meditations” will look at some of the Lord’s promises to us and how He constantly keeps them and fulfills them. These promises give us hope in times of worry, strength in times of weakness, patience in times of anxiety, and life in our time of death.

I pray God’s blessings as you join me in living in the promises of the Lord, which are fulfilled for our benefit.

Blessings,
Pastor Raasch

"One Minute Meditation" for Saturday, May 31

READ
And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. (Matthew 7:28-29)

Astonished! What other response would these people have after listening to these words of life and hope and peace? Each time we listen to the Word of God we should be astonished as we hear of the grace of God that forgives all sin, restores all repentant sinners, and will resurrect all bodies so the faithful would live with Him forever in the glorious perfections of Heaven. Astonishing!

REFLECT
Are you astonished by the message of the Bible?

RESPOND
Prayer: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as I await the Day of Your return, keep me strong in Your Word that I may never be deceived by false teaching, but embrace Your truths. I pray this in Your name and in Your peace. Amen.

"One Minute Meditation" for Saturday, May 30

READ
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7:24-27)

God’s Word is important because it proclaims two vital truths. First, it tells us that we are imperfect and we cannot save ourselves. Second, Jesus, true God and true Man, is perfect and has saved us by His life, death, and resurrection. It is by faith in Jesus, the Savior, that we have the gift of Heaven. This is why we read and believe the Bible.

REFLECT
What part of the Bible are you reading today?

RESPOND
Prayer: Keep me longing for Your Word, O Lord, that I may read, study, and apply it to my life. I ask this in the name of Jesus, the Word made Flesh. Amen.

"One Minute Meditation" for Friday, May 29

READ
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:28)

In the first century, there were many who proclaimed themselves to be the promised Messiah. Their campaigns failed. The Pharisees were false prophets as they proclaimed a theology of self-righteousness. Today we find false prophets who expound dangerous doctrines. Some proclaim that Jesus is not the only way to salvation and all spiritual roads lead to Heaven. Some promote “glory theology,” teaching that riches and success are signs of God’s approval. Some say that the Bible is not the Word of God, but only man’s word about God. Some teach that good works, not faith, bring one to Heaven. Jesus’ warning about false prophets is as important to today’s followers as it was 2,000 years ago. It is vital that we continue in the Word of God that we may discern the Lord’s truth from false doctrine.

REFLECT
Are you in the Word of God on a regular basis?

RESPOND
Prayer: I thank You, Holy Spirit, for the gift of the Word that keeps me grounded in Your truths. I pray through Jesus’ name. Amen.

READ
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)

We call this passage, “The Golden Rule.” Jesus informs His hearers that this is not a new concept, but is found throughout the Old Testament. Leviticus 19:18 reads, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” When a lawyer asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded with His parable of the “Good Samaritan.” (see Luke 10:25-37) Who is my neighbor? My neighbor is anyone I come in contact with each day. My neighbors are my family members, those in my community, the people who work alongside me, my fellow worshipers. My neighbors are those who think and look like me. My neighbors are those who don’t think like me or look like me. My neighbor is my friend and my neighbor is my enemy. Everyone is my neighbor and everyone deserves to be treated with love and respect. This is how Jesus treats us and how we are to treat others.

REFLECT
In what ways are you showing love and respect to your neighbors?

RESPOND
Prayer: Gracious Holy Spirit, give me the strength and joy to love others as my Savior loves me. I pray this in His loving name. Amen.

"One Minute Meditation" for Wednesday, May 27

READ
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)

Is Jesus saying I will receive whatever I ask of God? Does the Lord act as my cosmic bellboy, ready to accomplish my every demand? This is not what Jesus portrays in these passages. Jesus provides three important points. First, He encourages us to pray and boldly present our requests to our Father in Heaven. Second, we are taught to pray with faith that the Lord will answer our prayers according to His will, which is always for our best interest. God always answers our prayers. Sometimes God answers, “No,” because it wouldn’t be good for us. Sometimes God answers, “Yes,” because it is in accord with His will. Sometimes He says, “Wait,” because timing is important. Sometimes we are surprised because God gives us more than we asked or imagined. Third, when Jesus tells us to ask, seek, and knock, we are taught to be persistent in prayer. We pray with trust in the Lord’s will and His love for us.

REFLECT
Does your prayer life need a boost?

RESPOND
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for the gift of prayer. Thank You for hearing all my pleas and petitions. Thank You for answering my prayers only according to Your will. Give me the heart and mind to be fervent in prayer and patient in waiting for Your answer. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
